I went to West Ham last night, first away game of the season.

It was depressing to watch. Ayew's stupid sending off early on meant that 10 men in an already woeful team were completely ineffectual.

Relegation now just a matter of when. At least we might win some games in the Championship. Might.
The battle will be getting them to perform. We need a few veterans in there to get them going which should have been brought in this window IMO. If they're disinterested in the prem, even in our situation, the same group will barely turn up in a lower league.

Hopefully the next manager will be backed by the board to sort out the squad.

Reform at every level needed IMO, can't see it changing any time soon. Tis' a shame to see a club the size of Villa st their pants like this though.

With Randy's recent track record of "inspired" managerial appointments, I reckon Mr G Neville is already in talks.

Why would they give the next manager squad money when they didn't the last two...?

Hopefully Bernstein et al will have some input.

I've got the dreadful feeling it is going to be Nigel Pearson, currently being lauded pretty much everywhere because this high-flying Leicester team is 'his', massively insulting to Claudio Ranieiri and his achievements this season.

Do not like the fella one bit, all that 'are you an Ostrich?' business showed him up to be a total prick!

I really haven't got a clue (lifelong fan, over 40 years) who should be appointed, it's a mess, a clusterfk of the highest order and I am almost sorry DD sold it to RL, when for the first few years under MON it was looking promising (exorbitant transfer fees and wages paid to the likes of Habib Beye exempted). I hope I'm wrong but let alone the Championship, I see League One beckoning; I truly I hope I am mistaken frown

Bear in mind , if it wasn't for him Leicester would be in the Championship.Sure , he's an abrasive character(and nowhere as likable as Ranieri, or Garde) but Alex Ferguson was hardly sweetness and light-and did rather well out of it.

I feel for Villa and have a number of good memories of the ground and the fans. I remember being invited as a kid to an executive box with my Dad and seeing Newcastle win 1-0 with Mirandihna scoring and I have fond memories of boxing day games and going with my grandfather who was a Sheffield Utd fan and told me of times when Villa were a real force and seeing Villa win on many occasions,
I also was a drivers mate one summer and when we had to deliver to Villa Park and the driver said to me "You need to go in their son as I'm a bluenose and if I step foot in there, I think I'll be sick"

It's so sad what is happening in your club and the players should be good enough be clearly are not a unit and clearly it's not good enough. It feels systemic in the club and a big overhaul is needed in the summer to sort this out. Good luck!

The down turn began in the summer where Lerner wouldn't give O'Neill any funds to build on successive impressive seasons. I was a season ticket holder for O'Neills time in charge and there were plenty of fantastic games and performances. Not least the 5-1 against Blues.

I thought Lerner might try to sell back then, as it was obvious the extent of his investment was done.

What I hope now is that we look to have a decent board who can make good decisions for the Championship next year. I'd be fine with top half next year and players who will play with passion. Something to build on with a manager that wants to stay who has clear decisions on who comes in instead of the st show where Sherwood didn't want any/many of these new lads, no wonder he wouldn't play them.

O'Neil's stint seems such a distant memory now doesn't it. So much excitement when he and Lerner arrived followed by four years of decent performance. Things seemed to be really heading in the right direction at that time. Though history shows that we finished sixth those last three seasons I seem to recall that at least two of them saw us knocking on the door of the champions league spots before falling away toward the end of the season. If we'd have cracked the top four at that time, I suspect more investment would have come and O'Neil would have stayed but alas, we didn't and look what happened next. Lerner got bored of emptying his pockets, big names left and then a serious mixed bag of managerial and playing staff appointments. Breaks my heart seeing where it's ended up. The rot just seems to be prevalent throughout the whole set up from playing staff upward though hopefully the recent board reshuffle will reap long term benefits. A bit late but pleased it's happened.

The next couple of years for the club are so important now. It's very easy to fall back to the championship and stay there (or worse) and be forgotten as a premier league force, just ask Blackburn, Leeds, Forest, Sheff Wed, Fulham etc. I'd like to see a fairly big player exodus and look to some of the younger talent out there and experienced championship players. It is not an easy division at all and the current squad would really struggle in my opinion.

Manager wise, I actually would have really liked to have seen Sherwood back in charge (and actually in charge this time) but a safer and more likely bet would be a manager with proven credentials of success in the championship which is the most important thing right now. NP isn't my cup of tea but he makes a lot of sense in our current predicament.

Would have loved to have seen the club sold to a hungry new owner but can't see that happening. At least the more recent board appointments may see some positivity on that front.

Sad day in the history of our proud club. No fight, no passion just a pathetic acceptance of our fate. Bizarrely no one around me seems too upset or even angry, in fact more like everyone's glad its over. frown

Long drive home.

At least my 2nd club kept up with the League 1 promo race.....c'mon the Saddlers!

It's not all doom and gloom in the championship. It's a very good, competitive league with plenty of quality to watch. In contrast with the mercenary PL, many teams contain home-grown talent, and it's a pleasure to watch the young lads work hard, develop and progress.

I'm looking forward to seeing Villa and their fans at Pride Park next season wink.

Haven't felt like this since 1987 (the year I graduated ffs frown ) Gutted it's come to this but the last four seasons have been a slow agonising decline, awful. But I fear RL is going to give even less of a fk now and will let it go completely; after all the wage bill in League two is small change, eh Randy? Tragic frown

That's a tough, scrappy league for sure - these overpaid tools will never achieve promotion without a complete clear out, they are a disgrace, I feel sorry for the fans.
