No i didnt think martinez would be the kind of manager that would or could persuade the bigger names to stay at the club. as good as a manager as he may become i think he needs a few more seasons to be bloodied in.

what villa need now is a proven manager who has a high enough calibre and pull in the premiership

for me its either hughes or moyes.
As a Fulham fan hughes is a good manager, but when you have a lack of strikers for half the season like we did there was no change in style of play, no Plan B. He always goes on about how he was mistreated at Man City, never acknowledged the fans, and quite a few people felt he was only there for the money and as soon as he had an opportunity to leave he would be on his way. From looking on a few sites McLeish is being heavily linked, would Villa fans be happy with this? I just cannot see you getting David Moyes.

As a Villa fan it would be totally unacceptable to allow Mcleish to become manger of Villa, having said that he is undoubtedly a good manager who is highly respected within the game and if one could overcome the fact that he managed Blues then i am sure he would go on and become a very successful manager of Villa.

Unfortunately it does not really matter who we get, the club seems to be on the Brink of a slump and it will take a lot of money to correct this current downward spiral

Can't belive Martinez turned down AV -as Wigan are a when ,not if, relegated club
Feel sorry for Ancoletti --sacked from Chelsea -and just when he thought things couldn't get worse he gets offered AV job!
Forget double relegated McLeish
Whoever takes over must realize a peak of finshing 5th or 6th at best (champions league ? dream on dudes, dream on )

i cant believe mcleish to villa is actually going to happen.

wtf are the board doing?! i mean i can understand about martinez - upcoming manager and all that. i can understand about mclaren having won the dutch league. Hell i'd even understood about houllier. but this beggars belief.

and bham to ask 5.4m for him!?

There are not a great deal of competent and experienced managers available right now. The move for McLeish is like pulling the fat and ugly girl in a club because all the hot ones are either taken or not interested. It's short sighted and when you wake up from the hangover you realise what an idiotic move it was.

It would be far better (and cheaper) for Villa to put in place a caretaker, at least until January, and review the situation then.

I was thinking exactly that this morning. McLeish at this stage is at best a relatively mediocre premier league manager. Has had some good achievements in his career and some poor ones. He does not seem worth risking the potential back lash and possible huge financial penalty. Frankly, I'd rather raid the lower leagues if we're beginning to scrape the barrel a little.

It also goes completely against the grain of what the club has declared about their management hunt to date. Hughes left them unimpressed by the way he walked out on Fulham, even though he was perfectly entitled to do so under his contract unlike McLeish. They were interested in McLaren but supposedly were put off by the supporters objections to him. How exactly can they justify speaking to McLeish?

It seems that the books need balancing a little right now so why not just give Gary McAllister a crack at the whip. He may not be our dream manager but at least he'll be cheap and lets face it, the alternatives aren't exactly looking too attractive. I'd far rather that scenario than desperately trying to employ anybody that is remotely available.

Chris Hughton's still unemployed. He was pretty shoddily treated by his old club and would I am sure like to prove a point at somewhere like Villa.

What experienced manager, currently employed would you realistically (i.e. Not the special one) like?

I suspect (if he genuinely was interested at all) that it would be down to wages. Villa have made big losses over the last couple of seasons.

The best person you could have got is Rafa! I'd have been gutted to have got Martinez/McCleish over him!
If you don't believe me check managerial records before commenting.

I suppose with his record he can demand more than Martinez, McCleish etc... if you want to be up there challenging you have to pay, The others you have looked at have done NOTHING.

i dont think martinez's record at the moment is as good as people make it sound. he's still too Paul Ince for me yet.

mcleish because he won one trophy? he couldnt take rangers anywhere. and the backlash from the fans is worth that?

Well, no confirmation as yet but it looks like this is going to go through. I'll not pretend I'm remotely happy about it but if I can pick a positive out at least we'll have a manager and be able to get on with our pre-season plans, putting all this behind us.
