He seems to be in the mix for every job going at the moment? Must be a reason why every team has gone for another manager.

What do you guys need? Someone like a Pulis to put some fight back into the squad, or a give a young manager a chance to do something with the team?

Yeah I'm not sure why he always seems to be considered, there's obviously something up though as he never gets the job

I'm not sure what we need to be honest, the team is so devoid of redeeming qualities it's tough to know where to start. saying that though i think we have some very good players and the main thing the new manager will have to bring is giving them the confidence to go and play and to move the ball quickly and forward. I liked the football Nigel Adkins had Southampton playing, but then he did awful at reading so i don't know

The only name on the list the really impresses me is Klinsman. Me personally I would like to give someone that has history with the club a chance, that way we may get some passion.
I know the club wont take a chance due to it's current position but if it did I would love to see somebody like Merson given the opportunity, I know he didn't do that good at walsall but they didn't have a pot to piss in, here we have a good squad that needs some guidance.

I think we need a young manager with a point to prove who is a good motivator. I think Sherwood would be up for the fight, I'm just not sure he's the right man although I can't think of an available manager I do want.

As a Villa fan living/working amongst a fair few Spurs fans down south I recall Sherwood being very popular during his short tenure there, he got an under-performing team playing good attacking football that reaped dividends, but was never in Levy's long-term plans. I like him, he's on my imaginary shortlist.

Consistently poor business decisions during the O'Neill era led to a rocketing wage bill (90% of revenue), players being bought at inflated valuations, not played, then being shipped out for a big loss. The owner, having spent like a kid in a sweetshop, then pulled the plug (which is why O'Neill left) and has been steadily stripping cash from the club ever since. Villa now have a squad built on a shoestring, with limited quality in key positions. Benteke is decent but not long back from injury and not firing; his planned strike partner, Kozak, has been out for over a year with a broken leg and is unlikely to feature soon; another signing, Helenius, hardly featured after suffering a serious illness and has been shipped back to Denmark; Weimann is not good enough, Agbonlahor is lazy and only scores when he can be bothered and the ball is played in front of him; Delph hardly ever scores and needs to work a lot harder; NZogbia is on and off the boil and often runs down blind alleys.

On the plus side, the defence has got a lot stronger and Carles Gil looks like a decent signing and may provide the creative spark needed to get the goals going again.

But the basic problem is no money and an owner who has lost interest and can't find a buyer.
Well put Sir, a more precise summary you'll struggle to find.

Meanwhile, I see record signing Darren Bent has lost the excess timber he was carrying and is scoring for fun for Derby. Who'da thunk it, that a proven goalscorer if played, could score goals!? Not sure if we'll ever get to the bottom of what happened there. Unless there's a rapid turnaround DB will be back playing in the Prem next season and his former team-mates won't.

All very sad really. The words 'Billionaire Chairman' sounded great to Villa fans used to the Dr Evil-like tyranny of Deadly Doug Ellis, a travel agent made good but still small fry compared to the modern football chairman. Wily old Doug got out when the going was good, the game has moved on to a whole new financial level since, we have been left looking like the kid who spent his days staring out of the classroom window whilst our customary lower top half of the table peers have all knuckled down and moved with the times.

Whoever comes in now has a massive job to turn this team round in the remaining 13 games.

Will we go down? Quite possibly, wouldn't be surprised. Been there before, my first game was after relegation to the old Div 2, 0-0 against Barnsley, 12th Sept 1987. The world didn't end, as I recall the 15yo me really enjoyed going that season because we stood a chance of winning some games! Sometimes I think I'd prefer to take that than perenially bottom-feeding in The Greatest League In The World (tm) ... sigh. Only great if you're doing well in it!

On MotD this evening, they showed a clip of a fantastic individual goal.

The AV player took the ball all the way from his own half.

Does anyone know the details of the goal?

I wanted to see if I could find it on YT for a friend.

Thanks. smile
Dalian Atkinson v Wimbledon. 92/93.
Superb, thanks. smile

I hadn't noticed it was against my own team. frown (at the time, obviously, they don't exist now wink)

Tim Sherwood has signed a deal to manage Aston Villa until the end of the 2017-18 season.

TS may not be the most inspiring of choices, but lets be honest, with the club in the state it is, no investment, owner wanting to sell asap, zero transfer budget and a squad lacking in experience and quality....why would any "big name" manager want to take it on?? All the talk of Klinnsman coming in was utter garbage.

You are the second one to have said here is no budget, what proof is there of this as I see transfers in every window.

Of what value? £3.2m? Hardly going to propel us up to the top ten is it? We couldn't even afford Scott Sinclair and had to loan him in the end.

I'm gutted I thought they would have learned that fans matter after the McLiesh debacle, I thought they would have learned that experience matters and three seasons with Lambert. I am not sure that those at the top have a clue, in fact I think those idiotic yanks should stick to rounders netball and well padded rugby.

Well, we scored twice in a game and even won it. Sherwood looks genuinely optimistic, which I think will help us.

I think Sherwood will do an excellent job at the Villa, I know a lot of spurs fans will say i'm talking rubbish, but there is little doubt that Kane, Benteleb & Mason whom are first choice regulars for us would probably have been nowhere near the starting XI if it hadn't been for him.

He says what he thinks & seems an honest kind of chap & i think he will get lots more out of the players than you're last chap.

I hope he does well.
