I heard the news earlier when out running; that knocked me for six. I vividly remember the solo goal he scored culminating in a fan celebrating with him by sheltering him with a brolly. RIP Dalian.

Crikey, this cropped up in 'My Stuff', I expected it to be an update over us finally winning a game against Rotherham.

I know it's an overused plaudit, but he was a legend in that Villa side. Strong and with great feet, you could see opposition defenders looking scared whenever he got the ball. RIP big man.

Chelsea fan here. Very sad news. I remember his goal of the season in the early 90s.

What was it Big Ron said... "When the crowd start chanting Atkinson Out, I'll sell him!

My favourite Dalian story was a fairly-new-in-the-MD-job-at-Blues, Karren Brady said to Big Ron, "you must be very proud, having your son play for you!"

Two police officers are under criminal investigation after the death of former Aston Villa star Dalian Atkinson who died after he was shot with a Taser.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission said the West Mercia officers had also been served with gross misconduct notices.

Mr Atkinson died shortly after being shot following an altercation in Meadow Close, Trench, in Telford on Monday.

A post-mortem examination has proved inconclusive.

Say what you will about Tony Xia but he hasn't been shy spending money over the past few weeks. £50M or so up until yesterday, and another attacking midfielder/winger signed just now. On the face of it, it does seem to be money better spent than the scattergun approach to transfers in recent years - but time will tell.

Can't help but think that, whatever his natural talent, Gollini is just too raw and inexperienced to be a consistently solid number one keeper.

Looks like Richards may be following Lescott out of the door, albeit only on loan for the moment. Let's hope Flabby Aintgonnascore can be moved on before the end of the day too!

I've still got my doubts about 'Dr' X ..... still not entirely sure as to the provenance of his funds and whether this is not another Venkys about to happen.

Posting it now so I can requote this and get maximum smug bd PH points when it all goes to st. I find it hard to reconcile that somebody who supposedly has a Doctorate from Harvard (they have refused to confirm or deny this) writes like a teenager in txt spk on his Twitter account, if it is him tweeting.

Yeah, Collini has made a few silly errors that people would have been crucifying Guzan for, but he seems to be getting away with it.

Kodija looks proven at this level, but I read several Bristol City fans saying he scuffs loads of chances and cannot stay onside to save his life.

I had to laugh that Lescott's move to Glasgow Rangers apparently fell through last week because "he didn't want to unsettle his kids by moving them out of school". This week he signs for AEK Athens! Ah well, good riddance to bad news, should never have signed that has-been.

Agreed^^^ This has got massive financial ruin written all over it.

RIP The Villa.

Few results will go wrong. Bye bye Di Matteo. Hello some expensive manager after a quick pay day. Bye to him. Hello League One. The optimism just oozes out of me for our club at the moment.

We need to stick by Di Matteo whatever happens this season and hope these players were bought properly and not via loans that can't be repaid.

It goes from bad to worse! RDM saked this morning, unsurprisingly.

I had to laugh at this, Thursday he was predicting a top six finish in the Championship.

One further woeful performance against Preston and he's picking up his P45.

QPR fan here. I know someone who worked at Villa until recently and it all sounds like a QPR-type car crash with knobs on. Good luck.

Suprised there's no comments on this so far..... He is doing well and Villa actually winning games! Unreal! haha.

Haven't been up in a while myself due to playing for my local team.

I missed this post.

As SB's appointment was announced my view was 'pleased we've got him' (off the back of four promotions from The Championship) and he's certainly showed a lot of early promise. Don't give a toss about his associations with Small Heath.

Unfortunately I think any promotion push this season could be hampered by the woeful lack of points under Di Matteo - 23 points dropped in the first 11 games under him. Even if we'd picked up half of them we'd be top of the play off spots now.

That said, it's such a tight division with only 5 points separating 7th from 17th with over a third of the season gone, any numbers of teams in that group could go on a run and get up there.
