No!

Mullet hair and pixie boots.

I hope the FA charge them, but I doubt it.

What do you all think will happen with transfer fees this summer given the injection of cash from the TV deals. Previously it was only the top few in the premiership who could compete financially with the top European clubs, but now thanks to the TV deal, the clubs have opportunity to pay massive wages and get the best players.
Could see a few clubs spending 15million on players who are average at best

Might also mean that some clubs who had to sell players might not in the future... interesting times

If history is anything to go by, bigger fees and wages for average players. The richest teams will end up paying even more while the gap between the Prem and Championship gets bigger, I suppose. None of the extra money will go towards keeping ticket prices down, that's for sure.

About time. If its implemented consistently, it may well be bedlam for a few weeks. Should be entertaining!

About bloody time!

I wonder how strict they'll be on implementing it?

Hopefully they will be under orders to. Touch the ref - yellow, simple. Swear or get in his face - off.

As long as they have the guts to enforce it I agree, I just cant see any ref sending off a big name 4 minutes into a match because they've argued a decision. I hope they do, as others have said it would be carnage for about 3 games and then as you say would lead to a step change

100% agree. Refs need to be brave I think, just get it done. Then it will change.

Another in agreement. At the end of the day, players have been warned. They cannot whinge if they DO get sent off because it's in the rules and they've been given the warning.

As a complete Premier League neutral, I'd be happy if a couple of high profile players were dismissed to hammer the message home. Rooney, I'm thinking of you.

It will happen in a televised game and you'll have the "experts" in the studio or in the co-commentating seat whingeing about the rules as their mate has just been sent off...

I really hope this is enforced and don't mind one little bit if the first few weeks of the Season are complete and utter carnage.

Enforcing this visibly, especially on TV coverage, will do so much to change the attitudes in the game from kids and grass-roots upwards; I can't believe that anyone thinks the game hasn't been spoiled and eroded over the years by the increasing petulance and aggression of the players - it is time they appreciated that were it not for the referees then it would be time up for the game.... I'm actually surprised there hasn't been talk of some kind of action from the referees in the past few years, I suppose it is testament to their professionalism that there hasn't been.

Bring on the start-of-season-sending-off-carnage and welcome in some Rugby Union levels of Referee respect - I hope Clubs have penalty clauses in the contracts for their players so that wages are held back for breaches of discipline - hitting them in their already fat wallets will be the best enforcement lesson for them.

IIRC there are already penalty clauses for clubs should they have a certain amount of players booked or sent off during a single match - that would help trigger some attitude training in prepartion for match-days.

I agree with your sentiments, but I don't think many Prem players really worry about the money that much any more. Banning them from playing is a much better deterrent. Unless you're going to fine them £250,000 per sending off or something, but even then ...

I wince when someone is sent off and then the pundits accuse the ref of spoiling the match ... players have to take responsibility for their actions.

In some ways, players are the worst pundits. They'll be whingeing about it being "a man's game" again next.

I disagree with this.

The dissent law has been there for ever. It is lack of professionalism by the referees in applying that particular law that has allowed the players to get away with increasingly petulant, disrespectful behaviour.

If they'd been applying the law as specified we would not be having this discussion.

Clearly the authorities think otherwise or they wouldn't have brought in the tougher penalties? Less room for these to be open to debate/ignoring by refs perhaps when the penalties seem fairly black and white?
