I think to become truly one of the best ever, he must move on to another league. Not the Prem though, he'd be wasted on that rubbish, and he'd show it up for what it is at the moment. Alex Ferguson never moved on from man Utd.....se where this is going?![/quoteUh

Why should he move? No other league really that can offer him the challenge of a great deal of difference, if you've discounted the premiership.

No bigger club, he can't move to Madrid, nor would he ever, I suspect.

Pretty much the only person of note saying he's not the best now is Pele.

And this he's got to perform at a World Cup or internationally? Rubbish, the best players are all in the Champions league now and look a his stats for last season for Argentina. Pretty darnn special.

The prancing pony at Madrid must be sick tonight. Hat trick? Sorry , sir, just not good enough!
I'm one of those who says he has to do it at the international level.

At the international level he should be able to drag his team to win something. At the moment, 0 World cups, 0 Copa Americas.

I think he is right up there as one of the best of all time. But playing for Barca makes him look even better. I would like to see him go to another league Italy/England (it will never happen) and see how he manages.

I'd love to see Messi play in Italy, to be honest.

Ronaldo played for both Milan teams and both Real and Barca and scored bucketloads for them all. Until Messi repeats his incredible genius at another club in another league, the true extent of his greatness will be unknown imho.

It's a bit like Pep.

If he remains fit and healthy, I can see him getting 100 goals in a year.

No hope. He's total pony & yesterday's chip wrappers. Less than a half century before Christmas/ 6 months is glue factory material hehe.

I'm actually slightly surprised that Slur didn't proclaim Narcicuss to be head & shoulders above the useless midget.

Not disagreeing with the premis but I was watching this YouTube clip of Ronaldinho v Messi. I still can't work out how R does some of those tricks.

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=979W1QB1H2Q

Much as I thoroughly dislike his character I still have to put maradona at the top, he seemed to single- handedly bring success to Argentina and Napoli, however I think and hope Messi will surpass soon. I hope he plays for a different club and replicates his incredible scoring record.

How much do Barcelona pay him per week?

Another record for him, 17 games in succession he's scored in.

I was at that match as we were in Barca for a stag do.

A stunning goal too - his 40th league goal of the season.

The game was crap unfortunately but worth the wait to see Messi dink the keeper in the 85th minute.

The place nearly exploded.

The mans incredible although I'd still like to see what he could have done at another club. Or at international level?

Assuming most people think the best ever was either Pele or Maradonna, surely it can't be long before this guy is in the frame. He's definitely a cut above Zidane, Platini, Cruyff and the other world greats that never quite made the best ever list.

Who cares?

That argument is redundant balls I reckon. But it still gets trotted out every single time.
