I'd be surprised if we get more than 2 proven players this summer. From what I gather from Ivan's quotes shortly after the season ended, we'll spend a bit this summer, and a bit more the next. Not all at once.

Coquelin didn't get anywhere near the team for the last couple of months having been what seemed like an ever present in the match day squad. Don't remember any injury news especially. I'd like to see him given a chance but he seems to have disappeared...a bit liek Miquel has....I thought he looked decent when given a chance and he's totally disappeared.

Higuain's move to Arsenal is “at an advanced stage” — according to his dad.

“Nothing has yet been signed but I assure you the negotiations between the clubs are at an advanced stage.

“We won’t agree a contract before the clubs reach a transfer deal. I’m sure Arsenal made a big offer, and Juventus.”

scratchchin They keep on mentioning Juve...almost is if they are trying to prompt an alternative or increased 'personal terms' offer to mull over before putting pen to paper.

I'm really looking forward to see Higuain in an Arsenal shirt, if it indeed happens. I think he'd be a great addition to the squad, and more importantly add depth.

More importantly it would seem that we have indeed turned a corner, and we are now able to spend on quality.

Now get Fellani too please Mr Wenger. biggrin

We haven't signed anyone yet, if we do sign the players linked then I would be inclined to agree with you.

I'm amazed no one else in the PL is in for him, mind having been under Mourinho at RM that's probably put him off for life.

i would have thought he would have commanded more interest too but £25M is a lot of money , not to mention the huge wages

I thought he was going last summer & obviously Juan Mourinho convinced him to stay, He obviously doesn't fancy him at Chelsea, he has Lukaku, Ba & Torres , maybe he rates all of these three higher than Higuan.

Could well be the case. Chelsea don't really have a striker shortage.

Higuain could be a gem of a player, coming to a vastly less technical championship could well play into his hands. We all saw how Michu exploited that brilliantly. If it does come off, I can't wait to see what he can do.

That word again "if"

The scousers have pulled a decent one of already, Chelscum too....and probably man ure........

we need to get our skates on and not get involved in a bicker over small (grand scheme) sums on transfers.......we all know what happen then !!

Don't want Rooney now as he has openly dissed us for Chelscum......

If we drag.....Higuan will end up at Juve

I think most of those quotes from Higuain's father were originaly from the Gazzetta Del Sport, who are also now reporting that Juventus are in for Tevez and in fact officials from the club are flying to Manchester this week to finalise the deal (in principle).

If true, that would open the door for us to finalise the Higuain deal. I'm a bit suspicious about the Juve link to both players actually, they apparently don't have more than 25 million to spend (before sales), and already signed Llorente, even if it was on a free transfer.

They were also linked heavily to Jovetic, not sure if they were ever serious contenders for any of these players, or even made an offer.

Last summer they were supposed to be the front runners for RVP, in the end they ended up with Bendtner on loan!!

I have nothing to back it up but there was too much smoke around for that to have just been a rumour. I suspect that when the manager, Antonio Conte(?), was suspended the deal fell through and ManUre stepped in.

I think those are pretty decent observations....the whole Jovetic thing has gone very, very quiet.

My guess is that Arsenal being Arsenal won't announce anything until the transfer window officially opens next week.

I read somewhere that Juve want to pay in "extended" installments, the inference being that Arsenal being relatively cash rich they can pay upfront or in one or two installments. Not even 10 years ago the Serie A clubs could blow Premier League clubs out of the water financially....that's seemingly gone now.

What's also interesting is that for all their money Man City lose out when they go up against other big clubs who can match the financial muscle for specific players....they lost out on RVP last year and again appear to be losing out on Isco. Basically unless they blow other clubs out of the water they don't get their man.

Sustained success will change that though.

Agreed - but only if it happens. Realistically, as much as it pains me to admit it, ManUre and Chelski are probably the places that players would want to go in the league at the moment for the chances of success. Whether or not the departure of SAF from ManUre has any bearing on that only time will tell.

Ancelotti has been confirmed as Real Madrid Manager, it remains to be seen if this will no hasten Higuain's departure.

Possibly, however I would be surprised he's been lined up to take over at Madrid for weeks I would be surprised if they hadn't consulted him regarding the sale.

Yes, they'll have been discussing transfer strategy/budget as part of his deal. He's effectively third choice at RM too isn't he?

I think we are in a very good position to sign Higuain- the Spanish press were reporting that he is one of the lowest paid players at Real, on a reported 75,000 per week.

That really surprised me, even if it's not accurate and it's more, it' still a lot less than you would expect for a striker at the club with the second highest wage bill in world football. Aparently he is very keen to leave, he is a player that has never been loved by the fans, or particularly respected by the various managers.

Not sure why that is, I don't watch Real that regularly, only the bigger games and champions league, he has always struck me as a hard working, commited player that contributed his fair share of goals, instinctive finisher, great movement off the ball despite not being the quickest, scores a good variety of goals and excellent technical ability. Not very physical but he will adapt well I think.

I also read that Juve want to pay in installments, no surprise there, Italian clubs generaly are in a very poor state, the league has suffered scandal after scandal and has not had the appeal of the PL or La Liga for a long time. I don't see a really top player (other than a clown like Balloteli who gets homesick) going to play in Seria A.

With Juve having reached agreement with Man City for Tevez you're a shoe-in for Higuain now shirley.
