Bit of a damp squib that point Flash. Fair enough, we're slipping up, but 8-2 will always be in the record...
As I've said before, that deteat to United did more good than harm, we only lost out on 3 points but it opened Wengers eyes to just how terrible our team was. If United had played badly and only just won it 2-1 do you think he'd have bought the players he did that have helped to bolster the team?Gun said:

Certainly looked like you had the tits knocked off you. He seems oddly proud of our result against you even though his team got spanked by you
closet manc?

I think he's mentioned it more than all the United fans combined, and he's only been here a few months.I notice it's being mentioned more now that the gap between the two teams they were endlessly bleating on about is vanishing, wouldn't it be sad if that Arsenal defeat was the highlight of their season

This was always going to happen. Personally i am not going to bother about it till the close season as RVP has always said that he won't discuss any contracts till then. In the background though i don't doubt one of his agents has agreed this verbally whilst sounding out a move though as this goes on all the time. The final decision will rest with the player so let's wait and see.
Personally i'd be delighted if he remained on top form till the end of the season before one of his dodgy glass ankles gave out in one of the last two games and that ruled him out of medicals anywhere and the Euro's!
I agree Paul. I am sure his agent is getting calls from all over the place and it is his job to get potential deals down on paper to propose to RVP.
Of course City want him, as do any club who can afford him, so I expect to see many more of these stories over the coming months. At the end of the day, RVP will assess all of his options at the end of the season. He will remember that picture of him wearing an Arsenal kid as a child and how much he loves us and all this on top of the world class players we look to be signing will tempt him to stay put If we get top 4.
£210K a week? That is only £60k more than we are likely to offer him. Also I imagine being clearly the best player at a big club like Arsenal is better for sponsorship deals than being one of the best for somebody like barca or madrid. Worked well for Henry. He will also get a nice signing on bonus.
edit: not that I think money will even be a factor in his decision. but as that is what so many people and the press seem to bang on about..

He also recently took some pictures for our membership campaign for next season and he would not do that if he was planning to leave. Remember Fabregas didn't get involved last year while there was speculation about if he would be staying?
I think his decision is totally dependent on what we offer and show him instead of what kind of carrot is dangled in front of his nose by ANY other club.

As much as I hate Arsenal and all the club stands for I really hope you keep hold of RVP by taking the stance Daniel Levy took (and hopefully will continue to take) over Modric. I'm sick to death of the Citehs Chavs and Utds buying up trophies by paying silly wages and bullying poorer clubs with their financial clout.
Naturally once you do secure RVP's services I hope that he contracts a rather nasty fungal nail infection and misses the entire season.

What do we stand for? Naturally once you do secure RVP's services I hope that he contracts a rather nasty fungal nail infection and misses the entire season.

I don't think you'll find anyone on here disagreeing with your initial thoughts. As for the nail infection........ Naturally once you do secure RVP's services I hope that he contracts a rather nasty fungal nail infection and misses the entire season.
I was chatting with a couple of pals about RVPs contract and the financial clout that Citeh have and this is even worse than when Abramovitch took over at the Chavs because Sheikh Monsour(sp?) seems to have even bigger cash reserves.
There are no bigger loyal mugs than football fans and as much as i want RVP to stay for all sorts of reasons i cannot exactly blame him for going if someone offers him more dosh. Booey said that he'd potentially "only" be getting an extra £60k per week. Do the maths.......... £3M per season over 4 years and that is serious candy.
Personally i think they will have to offer him some serious £££££££££££ to keep him but perhaps even more importantly i think he will want to see who the club will bring in because if they carry on with this spendthrift feeder approach then who can blame him for going elsewhere for the same amount of monies let alone more?

This is total nonsense. If this was true it means Arsenal giving Manchester City permission to speak to Robin and discuss personal terms, something which would 100% not happen when the season has not even finished and there are so many crucial games left for us to play, especially since our top 4 status is not secured and we will be relying on Robin for this. 40+ million is at stake in that respect alone.
What may have happened is Darren Dein (Van Persie's agent) or someone who works for him has unnofficialy approached City to sound them out regarding a potential deal. In that cas, there is no way any specific salary figure could be reached, or even estimated as deals for such high profile, high value players are partialy down to image rights and other commercial aspects which would involve discussions between all three sides- something which has not happened.
Of the very small group of teams who could offer Van Persie the wages and level of football he would want, City is the last team he would sign for.
If we lose him, it will only be to Barca or possibly Real.
That story is just baseless rumours and speculation.
What we can be more sure of is that Arsenal are prepared to make Van Persie the highest paid player in the club's history. 130k a week rising to 150k a week plus a 5 million sighning on bonus has aparently been on the table for some weeks. Considering Robin's off field earnings are in the millions an extra 50k a week although a welcome bonus will not decide where he plays his football for the next 4 or 5 years.
I think there is a 90% chance Van Persie will stay.

It is a lot of money I agree, it is nearly a Theo Walcott annual salary more but does he seem like the kind of guy who is motivated by money? When you are muli millionaire football superstar an extra couple of mill a year is not exactly enough to make you leave the club you supported growing up and have been with for most of your playing career. I know I wouldn't be bothered by it if I was playing for Arsenal.Personally i think they will have to offer him some serious £££££££££££ to keep him but perhaps even more importantly i think he will want to see who the club will bring in because if they carry on with this spendthrift feeder approach then who can blame him for going elsewhere for the same amount of monies let alone more?
as I said I think he will go on to earn loads of cash no matter what he does and it will take for us to not hit 4th and not build the team for him to leave.. both of those things are looking less likely as the weeks go on.
all opinion of course, we will see in a couple of months
edit: If he does leave we could not have found a better replacement in Podolski
I know to most people, PHers included, money is important. I am trying to put myself in RVP's shoes when forming an opinion on what he will decided to do instead of letting the press speculation machine or spurs fans tell me what he will do.
