Justin Cyder said: Tevez for the sack. Not after the money Citeh paid. . Agree about the rest, but I thought the city one was interesting in that it is probably the only club in the world to whom the money side of things was irrelevant. Im not sure sacking him was ever on the cards, but they certainly stopped paying him and certainly made *him* come back with his tail between his legs. I throughly enjoyed that sorry saga and it was the one time I quite enjoyed the rich foreign influence over our game

there needs to be a example made of one player...
Modric, RVP, Tevez, Rooney, Ronaldo ... one of them left to rot in the reserves
(awesome forward line tho, eh?)

If I was one of these oil billionaires that wanted to use his money for fun in teh premier league I would pay the owners of those clubs enough money to let them all rot. Very enjoyable

Justin Cyder said: Money always talks loudest. We've seen it so many times now. Ronaldho to rot in the reserves - not for £80m. Tevez for the sack. Not after the money Citeh paid. Modric'll be the same, it'll all be going on behind the scenes & Levy is a master of navigating these waters. I just wish he'd get gone so we can start reinvesting in the side. Not sure what yr on about with Ronaldo. It was always known he'd want to end up at Real at some point. It was also pretty clear that (after the first round of specuation) he & SAF did a deal that he'd stay for one more season & then he'd be allowed to go - and that's what happened. In fact his transfer had less to do with money (in his pocket) than most do. I don't know of too many United fans who don't accept the situation with him or that bear him any ill will on the back of it. We just look at it that we had some fantastic seasons with him in the squad - and then we got 80 million quid for him Tevez is another matter altogether & the Rooney situation was down to his agent & I doubt that would happen again with him. I still think they should have made him a half decent offer & called his bluff. Its not like he was even going to go as far away from "home" as London, never mind anywhere across the channel! Going to Citeh was never a serious option for him IMO, he would know fine well he'd have had his house burned down! Modric would have stayed had there been CL football on offer. He wanted to go last year but was persuaded to stay & I think put in a decent shift for Spuds last season - you can't have too many complaints on that score. There isn't CL football on offer at the lane so he wants to go. Levy should just sell him to Real & use the cash to allow AVB to rebuild. The longer he delays the more difficult it will be to spend the money before August & Real know that & they will hang it out till the last minute on the back of that because though they would like him, they don't really need him. At this point I'd say Levy is beginning to limit his own options by not getting this thing moving & done.

He has a value on a player that has 4 years left on his contract. He is holding all the good cards in this deal. Modric can sulk and not train etc in which case he'll get fined. As with Tevez he will want to play at some point so will come back with the apologies etc. I think if there was 1 chairman in the league you wouldn't want to get on the wrong side of Levy might be pretty high on that list.

Justin Cyder said: No reminder needed, that was in 2008 when Real tried to force the move before Utd were ready. SAF went to Portugal & sorted things out with the player & all was fine after that. Ronnie came back to OT & gave us another full-on season & a hatful of goals & then Utd let him go & there was, and remains, no bad feeling either way.

I'm not interested in sentiment one way or the other. I was making the point that in the heat of the moment, we hear people threatening to leave players on the bench, in the stands or in the reserves, but when it comes down to it, money always wins & the Ronaldo transfer is an example of that.
Whether the Glazers meant it, like the lad or send him a card every Christmas is neither here nor there to me. But Old red nose did report that Jed Clampett would leave a player in the reserves if they didn't get what they wanted.
He then went on to say in the same interview that the Clampetts had been excellent owners so he is of course off his nut.

That said, Ronaldo will always be welcome at OT, either back at United (we can but hope ) or as an opponent. I doubt there will be the same end result with Modric at the Lane (or RVP at Arsenal).

Also, just rereading what I wrote there - don't mean to sound chippy, so apologies if I do. Unless you're an arse fan reading it in which case stick it up yer Wenger.

From that top quality paper the STAR !
With the Spanish giants unwilling to match Spurs' £35million asking price for Modric, the north London side have proposed a part-exchange deal for the Croatian.
Midfielder Nuri Sahin and defender Ricardo Carvalho had previously been touted as make-weights in the transfer.
But Sahin was uninterested in a move, while Carvalho's age and salary demands were a problem for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.
Youth player Joselu could now hold the key to the transfer saga, with Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas keen to bring the 22-year-old to White Hart Lane, reports Spanish newspaper AS.
The £8million-rated striker has been in sensational form for Real's 'B' side over the past few years, but is likely to see first-team opportunities limited at the Bernabeu.
Despite the German-born star currently negotiating a move to Bundesliga side Hoffenheim, Spurs are hopeful they will be able to use Real's desperation to land Modric to their advantage.

I think Levy should screw (Real&Modric) them as much as possible. £40M+ a player as Real seem to really want him. You want him? You f king pay for him, Real are one of the richest teams in the world and must have a plethora of talent in reserve. Higuain, Kaka etc. Mourene knows Modrics worth and he also knows that trying to hang out untill late August to broker the best deal for them will result in Modric remaining at Spurs and Real having to wait.

That's not going to work - unless multiple bidders are going to get involved. The longer it goes on the less likely that is to happen.

If you create stats like that about Modric, then I think you really fail to grasp what type of player he is, and what he brings to the team.

You can't judge Modrat on those stats, get me the stats for tackles ridden, time the ball has been held, pass completion, positional understanding, pass penetration. Those are his strengths.

Well now I expect him to leave i'll post as much s t as I like about him. If I was Levy I'd hold out for 35m If they want him that much they'll find the money. As already posted RM are an extremely rich club so hopefully they'll send a cheque asap.
