Good effort from Rooney, but I am not sure what he was wearing that funny hat for.

slightly O/T but during last night's game did anyone else think "ahh, losing game and have no potato, is sad...."
I must have thought it about 5 times as they scanned pale scrawny ukrainian speccies in the crowd...

I see Blatter and Platini are calling for goal line technology after last nights game. The BBC are running a story about the 'controversial' decision, ignoring the fact that the refs also missed the offside, (and also missing the fact that the goal line tech would not help with that decision, and Ukraine would have equalized despite being offside should it be given).

Funny. Two years we score a goal that wasn't given. Blatter and Platini ignore calls for goal tech and scoff at what a ridiculous suggestion it is. Last night a goal scored against us isn't given. Blatter and Platini now say goal is an absolute must.

Funny, a similar thing happened in the Champions League final. The first time a German team loses a penalty shoot out Blatter and his cronies were calling for an end to this heartache, in a complete reversal of their previous stance. Say what you like about Sepp and the boys but at least they're consistent in their hypocrisy.

For me, this goal line b ks is all b ks, ably demonstrated in it's flawed entirety last night. What they actually need to do is review all controversial decisions where a goal is involved - it is goals which influence the outcomes of games. So... offsides leading up to a goal, penalty decisions AND goal line decisions all need to be done at the same time. Otherwise there is no point.

The ball crossed the line, so review that and it's a goal. But the through ball was offside so it doesn't stand. Let's say it was onside, but the through ball came from an incorrectly given goal kick that should have been a corner. Where would you stop? (I don't know the answer hence the interest in how the hell it could be made workable).

Where would you stop? (I don't know the answer hence the interest in how the hell it could be made workable). You make a good point. Can you imagine the controversy if 'GRT' had been implemented for last night's game, and yet an offside decision as clear as day (I'd say 1-2 yards) wasn't given? I also remember another blatant offside in Ukraine's favour that wasn't given - when the guy blazed a header over the bar? It's almost like the officials wanted Ukraine to go through, and s tty old Engerlund has spoiled UEFA's party. How much would Platini and Blatter liked to have seen England on the plane home? More than a bucketful of prossies I'd say.
