Steameh said: I have woken up this morning incredibly excited about the summer of sport that lays ahead. I cant wait for the Euros I had that feeling too, until I realised we probably won't beat France and we have an awful record against Sweden and if we do somehow manage to get through, we then face a likely 1/4 against Spain or Italy, and I can't see us beating either. I do love getting in from work though, a few beers, maybe a bbq and watching an international match between 2 teams I know very little about. Final thought, how long before we start seeing those tacky flags on cars again this summer?

8 days to go! I can't wait. My money is on the Germans. They have so much talent going forward. Spain have a decent team but 3 major tournaments in a row!? That would be a monumental achievement.

Is any 1 on here doing the free euro dream team with the sun? Should set up a mini league on there if there's a few people doing it.

If you set anything up please let us know the details! May be worth setting up a thread for it because this one has been dead so far. Now only 7 days to go!!!!!!!! This day next week Rodney... My countdown advent calendar will be missed when it starts but the football should be worth the chocolate sacrifice.

The Portugal/Germany/Denmark/Holland Group is now officially the most deathlike of all groups of Death (i.e. highest avg Fifa Rankings in a group of any tournament).

Anybody know of a decent spreadsheet where you can enter the scores from the games and it updates the group tables and stuff like that? I know there's bound to be loads on the web, but I'm never sure which ones are good/bad/indifferent/virus ridden - just for the fun of it, you understand.
As for who'll win? Sadly, England have too many inexperienced players, and like Ireland just aren't the best team. As for the rest.. France - depends which team turns up (why do we say that about french teams, whatever the sport) or if they fall out with the manager Holland - a bit like Arsenal - will play great football, but will fail to go all the way (that's if they don't fall out with each other) Portugal - Not playing well at the mo, plus take Ronnie & Hulk out and who have you got? Germany - will play business like football very unexciting, but before you know it will have sneaked into the final & will win

Hardly inexperienced! We are just not very good.

Predictions for France on Monday, chaps? I think they are only strong going forward, and we are strong at the back.... I think Young - Wellbeck - Ox-C will be good enough for rapid counters and catch them out. Providing our defence holds out, I am pencilling England in for a 1 or a 2-0 win! Hoping Ribery & Benzema lose form between last weekend and Monday....

Erm.......... when I referred to any inexperience, i was doing so from a point of RH introducing the new faces, that's all. As for hulk, for some reason I thought he'd got portuguese citizenship - don't know why...

well, optimisim isn't a trait I'm used to as far as england are concerned..selection issues aside (what does micah richards have to do to be selected ahead of Kelly / G (I can't defend) Johnson?) we're no hopers. on the bbc website shearer has england as semi finalists what f king planet is he on? I retain the hope though that the team that I saw beat Croatia 5-1 might emerge from the malaise of the FA's handling of capello & successor etc... I will support the team no matter what, more in hope than expectation...France look rejuvenated...our tourney record against sweden ain't great and a host nation - doesn't bode well. /meldrew off C'mon England! (expecting to be a (dis)honorary Irishman before too long)
