I pay £34.00 at OT, my 6 year old son £12.00. Cheap at twice the price...
Does that mean that despite the recent price hikes United remain one of the cheapest and therefore still fair to the working classes?

On that note. The bks around "football is for the working classes" boils my piss. Grow up comrade you're too old to be a socialist although it does explain your bitterness around a lot of things.

I always despised the leftie leanings in the fanzines. Trendy socialism died a death with Ben Elton.

Well I'm working class and I'm not grumbling at the price, I certainly don't think it's the dearest! OK so I have to sit higher up in the SAF stand but that's allright I can live with that, if it means I get to watch the matches with my son (or daughter). smile

Thanks for the warning mate, as I'm buying a cat soon. thumbup How much was cat food out of interest or did you not notice? Is there anywhere that you could recommend for cat food? Do you know anything about cats or is it just dogs? What kind of dog - big/small?

You might believe you were born working class but your lifestyle suggests otherwise.

I was born on Salford and spent a couple of years there. I'm as far from working class as you can imagine now.

It means that Goodison is a great stadium to go to, one of the last real football stadiums left. The rest have been replaced with soulless concrete bowls like Reading, Middlesborough, Southampton, Arsenal etc etc

My political leanings are very much to the right (no not that far right) which you may think makes me confused, how ever nothing is black and white.

The gentrification of football from the working mans game to the playground of the well off is now almost complete. The issue is that the next generation of young match attending football fans are just not going to come through as they simply cant afford it. Now you may say thats tough st but it doesnt have to be this way as the German football model shows. Old Trafford like nearly every ground is a complete morgue, a terrible atmospher, I just think its a great shame that we are going to lose part of our cultural heritage forever, as once gone people arent going to come back. There are far more important things for people to spend their money on.

Football in this country is a joke, its overpriced, overhyped and mediocre.

This is quite a good article on it, yes its from The Mirror (which I generally despise) but I dont think political beliefs are running through this piece:-

Well that I can concur - proper old school. The last time I went was the F A Cup tie a few years back. My memory is st and I can't be arsed to google it but I think we won 0-2 and I think Ronaldo got one? I swear, I'm going senile!

But I do remember a fantastic atmosphere but with a big whiff of trouble. Thought I wouldn't make it back to my car without getting battered. Luckily, the police helicopter had its spotlights on to help me find my way back to the car (or they were after me) wink

I do remember it kicked off big time in Liverpool city centre later on - glad I took the car to that one. hehe

PROPER old school.

Proper stadium, with proper history. Need sever rede elopement though. Just not bringing in the corporate, and hospitality cash that new stadiums are. The Kirkby stadium design was similar. Rectangle stands, rather than a bowl, etc. I liked that design. Plenty of obscured views in Goodison, however.

I sort of understand the nostalgia for old grounds but that's progress I'm sure some objected to the building of these stadia when they first went up too and fondly remember the jumpers for goalposts era as much better.

Personally I miss terracing but if it was brought back I'd still go for a seat nowadays as I'm getting on a bit.

The point is that German football has a proliferation of new stadia all purpose built. So progress is inevitable.

So Newcastle away next, undeniably a stern test.

We have gone behind in so many games this season, and often gone on to win.

Southampton, Fulham, Liverpool, Cluj and famously Spurs - all won from losing positions already this soon into the season.

Is that a positive or negative sign? confused

You have hit the nail on the head, as you get older you progress from the terraces to the seats, which used to free up space for the youngsters to have their years following the red army.

Now that passage is gone and there simply arent the youngsters coming through. Although ze germans have built new stadiums they have built them with the fans in mind and they still retain that atmosphere.
