flatline84 said: Even with a new manager you are still stuck with a very underwhelming squad - Suarez aside.
You need to get flair players from france and holland/belgium - not "proven" PL-quality workhorses for 15 million a piece and 0 assists between em... Under estimate liverpool at your peril.

If you are looking to the future and an improvement to top 4 status over the next 2 years, should your new manager not be looking at phasing out Gerrard?
I know its hard to replace club ledgends, but is it time for realism at Liverpool...? Building a team around a fading player prone to injury and bouts of less than sparkling performances....? I'm not saying he needs to go now or anything, just long term, you might need to focus building your team around other key core players....
Just wheel him out when you need to give Everton a beating again... (Everton fan here)....

On another note..... Swansea took a few good, big scalps last year, with a few big wins over top sides at their home ground. They took 4 points off the worst Liverpool team, in like, ever.... and three points of City when they clearly had lost focus... However, take those few big wins out of the equation, and look at their other results, and they lost to some pretty crap teams..... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/swansea-...Take another long look at those results from last year. Without a couple of 'headline' results (including a pointless last day win at Liverpool which lifted them from 15th place finish) they would have been in trouble. 41 points is usually the saftey point but this year it was 36 points. On other years they would definatly have been touch and go. I think this shows that teams quickly learnt how the Swans played, and how to score against them, and that Rodgers failed to adapt to beat 'bread and butter' teams. I think Rodgers & Swansea would be in a bitter relegation fight next year. I think you may have jumped too early into the apprentiship that Rodgers is not yet finished.....

Raja said: Roy had my full support. Its once he started behaving like a knob and buying the likes of Pooson and Kons tsky then went on to lose games that he lost it. Dalglish had my full support until he went on to buy average players for superstar fees then play them regardless of form to try to prove he was right. The Suarez t shirts didn't help either. Rodgers needs to evolve his sideways passing football with little penetration pretty sharpish else he'll lose more than just my support. I'm just hoping he's not responsible for signings as well, regardless of what he wants. So with your love of giving people nicknames that a primary school child would be proud of what have you got lined up for Brendan Rodgers.

I don't think Raja was the only one giving nicknames to those pair!

Raja said: As if we wouldn't have got a higher calibre manager if we could have. This is what happens when the last guy in charge spends all the money and lands flat on his face. Without investment this group of players regardless of manager will achieve nothing.
FSG - bought the club on the cheap and now it seems making us in to a cheap club. I'm sure Rodgers will be limited in his ability to go after international talent. It's blatantly obvious we need a new DoF yet if FSG have secured Rodgers by promising him full control, especially when they've been on record to state that they wanted a DoF, then it will continue to prove that they know bugger all about football.
If we end up with Rodgers without a decent DoF then I really struggle to see how we'll progress. Can you please stick with a sum for what we spent on players and stick with it please? Either it's Dalglish spent £100-120m when you're trying to put him down, or FSG have only "invested" £20m since they bought the club when you want to belittle them.

Jammy there is a difference between buying players with money raised from sales and putting your own money, additional money in.
Dalglish failed. Deal with it.

I'm amazed that the guy hasn't even signed a contract and people are already writing him off. Lawrenson is on the bbc website saying its a "major gamble". Well thanks for that insight, how about you all pipe down and just let him get on with things. Discuss his performance after 6 months/1 year/3 years.

Rodgers is not KK. I sense trouble coming from the stands if you stumble early on.

He will try and impose his philosophy on Liverpool FC.
It didn't work at Reading.
He already had the basis at Swansea as Martinez and Sousa had instilled the continental way and brought in players with the technical ability to play this way.
He will need time - two seasons at least - to get it to start working.
I mean, can you see Skrtel and Carragher stroking it around at the back?
