Financial Fair Play
Discussion
I agree the motivation behind the rule is to pay the wages to avoid a firesale.
But it doesn't work like that, the clubs tend to be able to afford the wages and use the money to fund transfers.
Unless there's other fundamental problems (Portsmouth, Wigan, Blackpool, Blackbury) then the club tends to go back up.
The reason the current system doesn't work / isn't fair is that it's tackling the wrong problem. It's designed to support teams that fail and have huge bills to pay with less income. What should be tackled is the huge disparity between the top teams in the Prem, the rest, the Championship etc.
When Nottingham Forest became the first club to spend £1m on a player it was right club, player and time. Any other club in the division could have bought the player. And remember, Forest had just been promoted so were not, at the time, a top division one club.
Chelsea just bought Morata for £70m, how many clubs could afford that?

I think if/when Neymar happens it's going to bring FFP back on the agenda and I suspect it will be bad news especially for Man City and PSG who are funded through sponsorship deals with parties their owners have influence over.
Barca are obviously an incredibly powerful football club and they aren't going to like one of their prize assets being "seized" from them...obviously La Liga and Real Madrid will lobby hard too as it has implications for them. Griezman has a €100 mil buy out clause so he'll be out of La Liga next season at this rate.
From what I've read Neymar is also going to become the face of the 2022 Qatar World Cup so wouldn't surprise me if that's how PSG will be able to pay him the paultry £500k a week

TBF Barca shouldn't have agreed to a €220m buyout clause.Barca are obviously an incredibly powerful football club and they aren't going to like one of their prize assets being "seized" from them...obviously La Liga and Real Madrid will lobby hard too as it has implications for them. If you look back over the years at the funding Madrid in particular have had, it's been amazing. Training grounds sold for millions more than they are worth, gifts from local government etc. FFP helps the bigger clubs as it prevents smaller clubs over investing (in theory)
agreed.I’m guessing this kind of stuff is widespread among some of the top spending clubs.
Will Uefa do anything meaningful about it?
“Manchester City and their sponsors manipulated contracts to circumvent Uefa's Financial Fair Play regulations, according to Der Spiegel.”

This has been on just about every football forum on here. If it’s true I hope we get kcked out the Champions league and docked 20 points for every season forever aslong as UEFA are also bought to task over their well documented corrupt ways and fans of the other big clubs who see the status quo remain and their place at the top table secure shut the fk up.
Can you tell I’m in a bad mood and sick of hearing about it!
I’m going to lie down.
