The Official 2012/13 Premier League Predictathon Thread
Discussion
Only five weeks to go!
One minor addition to rule 2 that I omitted last time, though it's the same as last year.
1. This Thread
Please keep this thread for Predictathon business only. Banter etc is always welcome as before, but if you want to have in-depth discussions about other football subjects, please do it on another thread.
2. Posting Your Predictions
If you’ve agreed to play, do keep an eye on the thread regularly and post your predictions in good time. All predictions must be submitted by Friday at 12 midnight for weekend games, and before the actual kick-off that night for mid-week forecasts. Please post in this forum in the same format as before, listing your scores below the fixtures thus:
Chelsea v Blackburn 2-0
Everton v Newcastle 0-1
Man City v QPR 2-1
Norwich v Aston Villa 2-1
Stoke v Bolton 1-1
Sunderland v Man Utd 1-2
Swansea v Liverpool 0-1
Tottenham v Fulham 2-1
West Brom v Arsenal 1-2
Wigan v Wolverhampton 3-1
2 0
0 1
2 1
2 1
1 1
1 2
0 1
2 1
1 2
3 1
Please use the published fixture list I produce each week for your forecasts as it makes it easier for me to cut & paste your forecasts straight into my spreadsheet. The key for me is the second list of scores as this will be pasted into the spreadsheet and hence the order and spacing needs to be correct so that each score corresponds to the correct match. Once you have posted your predictions you will not be allowed to edit or change them!
3. Missing the Deadline
If you forget to submit your predictions or submit them too late, you will be judged to have actually forecast a 4-4 draw for every game. This is a change to last year, and has been chosen as there will (probably) be fewer 4-4 draws than 0-0s, hopefully reducing the number of points scored by non-predictors.
4. The Gizmo! Pass
Every player will be given one chance per season to post later than Friday at 12 midnight but they must still post before the first kick-off on Saturday, which may be 12.45pm or 3pm. This is called 'the Gizmo pass'.
5. Holidays etc
If you are going away please tell me either by personal e-mail or posting on this thread and I will send you the fixtures you will miss for you to forecast in advance. E-mail your forecasts back to me and I will publish them on this thread on the appropriate day. If you don't do this you'll be awarded a 4-4 forecast for each game you miss.
6. Failing to Predict
If you do not forecast for 4 matchdays in a row without posting a prior notification of your intention not to forecast (ie you are going on holiday etc), you will be removed from the league with no re-admittance this season. Likewise, if you register to play and then don't play in the very first week without prior notice you'll be removed. Sorry, but you've got to show willing.
7. Comedy Forecasts
Please don’t persist with comedy forecasts (ie 10-0 and other obvious nonsense) - this isn't allowed and you'll be given 4-4's for all of that matchday’s forecasts if you do it. By all means post funny comments above the actual list of scores that I'll be cut 'n' pasting but take the forecasts seriously - a lot of work goes into this, so lots of silly forecasts might just make me wonder whether to bother.
8. Points
As in previous years, 1 point will be given for a correct prediction (home win/away win/draw) with an additional 3 bonus points awarded for a correct scoreline.
9. Your weekly score
You are responsible for checking that I have got your points earned that week correct and letting me know if something is amiss, which I’m sure you will.
10. My Score
You’re all welcome to double check my score each week, but I’m unlikely to be a title contender anyway judging by last season’s performance. If suddenly I’m top of the table, you’d be well advised to check.
11. Postponed or Rearranged Games
Scores will be held in the system for postponed games and points will be calculated once the games have been played. Should a game be postponed for several months, all participants will be given the opportunity to revise their prediction.
12. The Table
I will publish the table and other associated statistics at the end of each matchday weekend. This will be on a Sunday night (or a Monday if there is a Monday night game).
13. Table Positions
In the event of 2 or more players having the same points totals the league table positions will be sorted alphabetically from week to week. In the final standings positions will be determined firstly by the amount of correct results predicted and second by the amount of correct scorelines predicted. If it’s still equal, alphabetical order will be used.
14. Relegation
There is no relegation, despite what the table may tell you. By the same token, there is no Champions League for Predictathon winners, nor any Europa league, there’s no Sky TV money or any parachute payments, and there isn’t even a prize for winning, unless anyone wishes to donate one!
15. Number of Players
This is limited to 32 people to ease the burden of administration. We cannot currently take any more entries.
16. The (magic of the) FA Cup sponsored by Budwr
There will be a separate FA Cup Predictathon taking place during the season within this thread on the appropriate weekends, and only open to participants of this thread. So if you don't win the league you could win the cup. Like Manchester United, you don’t have to enter the cup [predictathon] if you have better and more lucrative things to do. Amended rules for the cup will be published later in the year.
