Once those hamstrings start going it's normally a very different player that emerges. (See Owen, Michael for more info).

Sadly I think we have seen the best of Lionel Messi.
11/12 and 12/13 were his best seasons.
Sadly this season or year he has been hit by injuries 3 or 4 times.
Quite happy to say i've seen him score an hat trick at the Nou Camp.

Owen, Michael was a man that relied on pace....Messi is a man that relies on having on better touch and ball control than virtually anyone else that has played the game. Injuries will definitely impact him as it will any player but losing pace is not as much of an issue for him.

Watching Barcelona at the Nou Camp is a good enough reason to get back to that city biggrin

Really? He is one of the fastest players on the pitch. Yes he has skill that goes with it, but if you remove the pace that he goes past players then he will look like a mere mortal.

I agree he isn't relaying on someone to knock the ball over the top for him to run on to, but he still needs that turn of speed.

Honestly I've never had the impression he's that quick but if you say he is I am happy to believe you. He doesn't look to have the build to be a speedster to me.

Balance, low centre of gravity and unreal ball control are the key to his game. Obviously he's not slow either.
