He does it to take the pressure away from the players. He's very good at it, too.
I know hence the straight face comment what I'd like to see is an interviewer actually take him on something like ' Jose do you think the numerous dives by Chelsea players over the last few weeks had a bearing on the referees decision today' now that would lead to fireworks E65Ross said:

What pressure on players? They did ok although one shot on target was poor, but Soton defended well."Campaign against Chelsea" - what a laughable load of bks given some of the dives committed by Chelsea players, even Ivanovic at it, who is not that sort of player usually. Of course it should have been a pen today, some you don't get.
I think he doesn't mind sounding a dick because he is trying to play psychological games with the referee of the next game.
Still no one took advantage

Exactly right. Fergie was the master at it and look at the decisions they used to get ...I'd love to see a reporter take him on but we know it won't happen.

To be fair MOTD had ago"Do you think recent incidents involving Cahill and Ivanovic, where some observers thought they had dived, had influenced referees?"
Moanrinho then said they were not incidents, it's a campaign "a clear campaign" then said pundits, commentators and other managers react differently to Chelsea than other teams.
He is a great manager but deluded and plain embarrassing half the time

Anyone actually know if Fibreglass was booked for diving or dissent? If booked for diving, that's ridiculous. If booked for dissent, then fair enough. His reaction to not getting the pen was OTT. The ref didn't give it, just get up and move on.
He was lucky the ref didn't see him kick the ball away a minute later or he would have been off.

Saints fan here.... Thought that it was a tight game int he first half and then 2nd half, our lads ran their hearts out and that we deserved a point for our dogged display. Not the worlds greatest game to watch, but I think we caused you a few problems in the first half and it was a good test of stamina and grit.
Think you'll win the title and hope to give you a good game at Stamford Bridge

As many say he is just deflecting the media talking about his sides deficiencies by making outlandish statements. No one is really talking about how they only drew.
We could talk about the manner in which we drew though. At times during the match, I was watching some sublime football from Chelsea. Football that in all my years as a supporter, I've rarely seen. Filipe Luis operating as a sort of quasi inside right was a joy to watch. No-one who watched that match yesterday could say Boring, Boring Chelsea. To give credit to Southampton, they defended really well, evidenced by the fact that we only got one shot on target in the game. We'll have to finish better than that to progress against the top sides in Europe. Leaving aside the penalty that wasn't given, I thought we deserved more from yesterday's game. But that's football. I enjoyed the game. And Citeh slipping up was a bonus too.joema said:

Fair point, Souness hit the nail on the head when dismissing JM's interview and saying he should be concentrating on why CFC only had one shot on target all game, he was the only one though so JM interview worked as intended I guess, the (quality) papers today may be more probingCie said:
I think it was for diving Twiggy, his reaction at the time seemed to be for being booked. But I haven't seen a replay, everyone seems to be reporting it was for a dive though.
He reacted badly to not getting the pen; head in his hands, screaming at the asst ref, behaving like a petulant child. He went even more bonkers when he got booked. He's entitled to be disappointed at not getting the pen, as it was a pen, but his reaction was too extreme.

BUT....again no end product. No clear cut chances missed. No real chances. I've only watched 4 games this season so far in their entirety (Sunderland, Newcastle, Spurs, Southampton). All bar Spurs showed teams planning similar fashion & Chelsea being unable to break them down. For all the pretty football, nothing. Teams appear able to stop Chelsea at present, they are not predictable, but teams are conceding space to Chelsea everywhere but in the final third. This is similar to how Chelsea effectively nullified Barcelona several times. There is just too much reliance on Hazard to do some magic. I think Chelsea will lose less than City, but draw too many. Agreed & maybe I'm just bad luck but of the 4 games I've watched, 3 have shown the same bad trend & thats 3 of the last 7 league games!
I'm not sure what the answer is when you're playing a team who've got 11 men inside the 18 yard box for big chunks of the game. I have to say that for the last twenty minutes yesterday, I was on the edge of my seat. I felt sure we'd get a goal. We didn't. Costa might well have scored when he was through but slipped, and if he had, I think we might be posting today about the positive football that we're playing. Like the Gooners, but with more success, and a proper defence.Onwards and upwards.
Fabregas will be missing for the Spuds game I think? And presumably Mikel and Salah will be off to the African Cup of Nations?
