Youth development policy...
When was the last time an academy player came through to the first team? Terry?
Well, on the bench on Saturday we had Ake, Izzy Brown and Loftus-Cheek. Loftus-Cheek came on. Dominic Solanke has also played this year. I'm sure there are others who've got a game this season, but I cant be bothered to go back through the team sheets to answer a fairly poor attempt at a wind-up.When was the last time an academy player came through to the first team? Terry?
Edited to add, I forgot Christensen was also on the bench on Saturday.

So... Terry then?
TrueBut look at the amount of Chelsea academy players in the prem currently.
Carlton Cole
Scott Sinclair
Ryan Bertrand
Jack Cork
Robert Huth
Fabio Borini
maybe not world beaters but the youth system is "working" to the extent we are making money from it. I would love to see a great home grown player come through the ranks, and hopefully it will be soon.

To make it at Chelsea the player has to be good enough to be in a team that is top of the league and capable of making at least the last 4 of the champions league EVERY year. This is not an environment in which a callow youth is likely to succeed.
Its a dilemma for the club that they have not quite solved for sure. But the quality of the coaching and player development between 10 years of age and U21 is at least as good as anyone else in the country. In fact the massive goal heavy hammerings they are dishing out in youth games this year suggests they are actually improving relative to other academies. thats a scary thought.
Ironic that Southampton (Who also have an excellent academy and a better record of getting them into the team than CFC) have had as many graduates of Chelsea's youth set up as their own in the PL this year. Jack Cork and Ryan Bertrand both Chelsea lads.
But their recruitment and scouting has been the best in the country for the last 4 years I would say and one of the benefits of this is that our fringe players are clearly coveted by other clubs and we get top dollar because we do not need to sell.

I would suggest that most of the big sides are putting out Prem quality players...the true test is them making your own first team surely!

the club are trying to get them playing regularly at clubs a level below with patchy results but we're not Southampton or dare i say it Spurs who deserve real credit for getting their young players into their teams but neither are trying to win the League or the Champions League either.
And its quite definitely a slow process. The Cobham set up has been evolving over the last 10 years and is getting better and better.

Just back from Aldershot, lost 2-4 to a very good Spuds team. Scoreline flatters us really, they dominated the whole game. They had a guy up front, Harry Kane, looks like a proper player.
Harry Kane....you heard it here first!!
Not sure how to cross post but this is what you said a few years ago.Harry Kane....you heard it here first!!
Good judge sir.
