5 games at home, 10 goals conceded, 6 scored, 2 points

I expect different tactics on Sunday, at times tonight we were 2-7-1

I know we're optimistic here and we all care but this was st tactics tonight and especially considering the players BR picked he got it wrong.

Adapt or die I think - starting on Sunday
And then coming out and blaming the players for being lazy! It doesn't seem that he is going to adapt. There's a clear line between strong self belief and being arrogant and egotistic. From everything I've seen so far my thoughts are that BR isn't going to change the way he sets up and isn't going to introduce a plan b.

3 home defeats in a row. This isn't going well and if he carries on like this on Sunday it's not going to end well either. The only glimmer of hope I see is a new dynamic team emerging that a tactically sound manager could use to win matches. Something that BR seems to really struggle with doing.

No. Nor shown anything to demonstrate he can be a striker
Yes, on his Anfield debut.

Boston Red Sox fire manager Bobby Valentine last night after only one season.

I think that is a little harsh given he has been played out of position for most of the season so far.

Played in his proper position tonight he looked much better. Granted he didn't put the ball in the onion bag but he didn't get much service.

What he did do was make intelligent runs which drew defenders (creating the space for Shelvey's run in for the first), work hard and get in good positions. Can't remember who it was but someone could have put it across the face for a Borini tap-in after a great run, but they played it behind him.

A couple of goals and the confidence will rise. But he needs to play centre-forward, not out on the left ir right.

Reality check, here are our strongest first team players that didn't start last night:

- Agger
- Skyrtl
- Enrique (or Kelly if fit as he would play on the right with johnson on the left)
- Gerard
- Lucas
- Sahin
- Suarez

So 3 of our strongest defenders and our best defensive midfielder didn't start or even come on so let's not get too concerned about the leaked goals.

Despite Sahin not playing and Gerard and Suarez not coming on until the last 3rd of the game no-one can deny we didn't create enough opportunities to win the game.

BR was clearly trying to give a couple of youngsters a chance to prove themselves as well as downing and henderson. He needs to test them at a decent level but I imagine he is less concerned about the Europa league so he is using that as the platform.

Let's not forget that Udinese were unbelievably clinical. I imagine the same doom mongers complaining about the result were probably jizzing themselves when we were 1-0 up and completely bossing the game.

We have a really young team with quality prospects. We'll come good. Can we please not start writing off BR this early it's embarrassing.

I agree with 2seas and Phil, your all flipping doom mongerers.

I am hopeful because the football we play is good and the results will come. Tighten up at the back (when lucas returns) this will happen.

Lets just look back at recent history this is much better football than KK or Mr Hodgson so I think we should stop moaning.

And do you really think he is tactically naieve, he has worked his way to where he is, if you think you are tactically superior I am sure you would be managing a football club and since your not that is all I need to know!

Quite. There is a very good reason why Carra was playing last night, because he can read the game well and has often bailed other players out for their mistakes.

BR obviously wanted to give Agger a rest last night, and would you really want Skrtel to partner Coates? Little tactical awareness between the two of them!

No, Carra was the right level of experience to help Coates and to some extend Robinson.

hehe

I didn't even double check that time, I figured everyone else can't spell it, so if I'd got it wrong, who'd know!

If only it was a knee jerk reaction like you suggest.

There's a pattern emerging with BR. Ignoring that is comparable to the Fox News generation.

This is not to say that he hasnt the ability to address things. But ignoring they exist, that's at least as bad as any knee jerk response.

It's only a problem if he agrees with your analysis of the game.

I very much doubt he does.

I think many pages ago in the old Liverpool thread I pointed out to all and sundry that Rodgers never had a Plan B at the Swans. He has a total and un-relenting conviction that his Plan A is the right way...even when it is not.

Ah that silly argument again and a totally bizzare position to hold. Your opinion is only valid if you've been there and done it.

I don't know how to fly a plane either, doesn't mean I don't recognise a plane crash when I see one.

BR is showing tactical naivity. The results speak for themselves. My position is simple. He clearly has talent but if he already thinks he knows it all and isn't willing to adapt then this will end badly.

Every manager has a way they play and very, very few change each week to suit whichever team they are coming up against. If you did your players would never learn a system and wouldn't know if they were coming or going from one game to the next.

I won't begin to try and suggest that I've been a close follower of football all my life because I haven't. However I have been since the days of Houllier, and especially Rafa. Every manager has their own little idiosyncrasies that fans hate, Rafa did, Hodgson certainly did, KK did, BR does. It's not even unique to Liverpool, despite how successful they are you still hear people bhing about Mancini, Wenger, Mourinho and Fergy!

If BR's biggest flaw is that he only has the Plan A of 'Pass and Move', well that ain't such a bad flaw after some of what we've been through! Besides, the defence WILL get better as the new kids (Robinson, Coates, et al) blood in and adapt to Rodgers' system.

Lets revisit this at 5pm on sunday and see what has been taken on board by the manager / players / back room from thursday.

Personally Im not a doom monger I love going to Anfield but recognise a st game / team / performance because I can remember a good game / team / performance however I have to go back a few years.

I'm just asking for a little time for the manager to implement his plans, the players to buy into his vision and the squad to be shaped accordingly. We all know we defended badly last night, and have this season, but BR knows we did too and I'm confident he'll address it.
