As mentioned in the Liverpool thread, Suarez's ban was longer as the FA had adjudged him to have said naughty things several times, not just once.
Ah hadn't seen that, makes sense, shame they didn't have a 'Extra 4 games cos everyone hates you and thinks you are a prick' clause

The 4 game ban makes sense given the rationale in the Suarez case. Why the discrepancy in the fine though?

Could it be wage related?

Suarez was on 30kpw when he was found guilty and fined 40k. Terry is on 150kpw and fined 220k.

Similar-ish.

I'm very disappointed by this, John is a great guy and anyone who knows him can tell you he's no racist.

Witch hunt plain and simple.

Could be, didn't realise Suarez was paid so little.

That wasn't what 'he' was charged with, now was it.

He was accused of racially abusing someone.

There was an interesting article by Martin Samuel the other day where he pointed out that apparently the FA have a 99 point something percent "conviction" rate, so essentially it was a certainty that Terry was going to be found guilty.

Personally I found his account of things very shaky, but there is also this business of one of the FA's own clauses which basically says that there's no case to answer if the same case has been tried and the defendant found not guilty in a criminal court, or something along those lines.

It has a bit of a whiff about it on both sides.
As a Liverpool fan Terry should have been given an 8 game ban, regardless of the amount of times the language was used etc, you either racially abuse someone or you don't.

As an Englishman, our law is based on innocent until proven guilty, Terry was acquitted by jury in a court, therefore the FA IMHO don't have a leg to stand on, and have basically handed down a punishment to be seen as towing the anti-racism campaign, same as the Suarez case. Both were effectivly Kangaroo courts.

However, I do understand racism is a big issue, but how is calling someone a black /etc/etc &@£! any worse than any other physical feature/ character defect / parentage questioning etc? If you give out abuse, you can't pick & chose what insults get thrown back at you, the idea is that a real insult is designed to hurt, so you may get called somthing that you don't want to hear. Some might not agree, but in the big bad world it happens.

Any special Chelsea tops planned for Saturday? smile

The thing with the Suarez case wasn't just the offence itself it was the poor management of the situation by the club. Be interesting to see how Chelsea react.

I was not aware that calling a black man "black" constitutes racial abuse. Live and learn.

Don't have an allegiance to any teams but £200k fine is a bit much - if Terry has any sense, he should take the fight to the very top. As he was acquitted in court before then why should the FA be allowed impose a fine let alone a ban.

I wonder where that cash is heading? I guess someone needed the funds to pay for the Xmas party drinks...

he has to make those last ditch tackles as he doesnt have the pace or positional sense for international football, also known as doing a Scott Parker.

Nonsense. Go back and read what I posted at 15.41.

Suarez got an 8 match ban rather than 4 seemingly because he repeated the offending comments more than once during the game.
