I agree. Now we have to see who Peace and Garlick have lined up; I can't believe they made such a hasty decision without having a replacement waiting in the wings (as Peace did with Hodgson when RDM was fired). Of course, their target may now be fancying his chances of landing the Spurs job leaving us in the ****.

Hope the outcome is like Southampton last year rather than the Wolves scenario 2 years ago......

No Baggies have a view on employing a novelist as manager? smile

Interesting one and definitely in the may work very well or may crash in flames quickly.
Pepe plays the the right football, isn't up his own rear and is used to financial constraints, but at the same time has the language barrier and possibly a lack of PL knowledge. Still, could be worse, could be 'Who is Pepe Mel' Albion assistant. I want to sign on soon rolleyes.

Another good point last night. We seems to have the knack of restricting some of the league's most potent attacks to very few chances (Everton/Liverpool/Chelsea, albeit we concede a goal to their only shot of the half) but when we come up against some of the teams around us, we can't seem to keep the ball out of our net.

If we could carry the workrate, the energy and tactics of our second-half performances against Liverpool and Everton in to a full 90 minutes I'm sure our league position would be a little less precarious than it is now.

Fulham in 10 days, a must win.

What a disappointing season that turned out to be. After our eighth place last time, and 10th and 11th before that, scraping home only by virtue of Norwich’s nightmare run of fixtures in the last four games, has to be deemed a failure. With the squad that we had got, we should be able to achieve an 11th-14th finish, and certainly amass more than 36 points from 38 games.

Our top scorer only got 5 goals, and we won only seven games, fewer than anyone else apart from Cardiff. Despite this, we conceded fewer goals than most around us, but too many wins were turned into draws (15 in all), hence our season-long struggle.

For a variety of reasons, we have lost the goals of Lukaku, Odemwingie and Long in the past season, and have not replaced them with anyone who can score 10+ in the premiership. The season has been disrupted by hitting the headlines for the wrong reasons - the Anelka incident, the shareholders meeting debacle, the sacking of Clarke, and the lack of an immediate replacement (Mel turned us down and was later persuaded to take the job), plus numerous backroom appointments and sackings that can’t have helped Mel do his job. Then there was the legendary fisticuffs when Jim Morrison thumped Saido Berahino after the Cardiff game, which could have divided the squad but strangely seemed to galvanise it. Too many distractions.

Mel has now predictably departed, and the new man (unless we follow the French lead!) has a lot of work to do. Nice guy, but wrong place, wrong time.

So all in all, a massive let down. Seven wins isn’t good enough. The Stoke fans were right when they sang to us on Sunday “you lucky bcensoreds, you should have gone down”. They were probably the only people left in the Hawthorns when the Albion players did a lap (or was that a lack?) of appreciation after the game. I was in my car on the way home.

In 13 weeks it all starts again. Despite everything that has gone before, I have no doubt I will be back, full of hope for the new season!

Boing Boing!

We all said it at the time - but Clarke's sacking was a mistake, and somewhat our of character for the club I feel.
IIRC we were in a better league position prior to Clarke's departure than where we ended up. For me the wheels came off when we had a 94th minute non penalty awarded against at Chelsea.

I didn't know that Mel had gone - but it's not that surprising and I'm glad.

Onward and upward hopefully..

Thought it was time to give this thread the kiss of life. And for Steve Bruce's time at The Hawthorns to come to an end.

Hopefully the board appoint Tim Sherwood sooner rather than later.
