As I said - current bench warmer so has the potential to be frozen out completely? I would have thought that he needs to be playing this season so a carefully crafted move could be negotiated and driven through. The worry is, we get him then end up losing Wayne, RVP and also feel that Kagawa is surplus so end up with less creativity than more.
If the selling club says "no" then there's no deal. We're more likely to see Rooney going the other way if any deal is going to happenanonymous said:

See that's a formation I like and with Rooney for Mata and a change at LB and we can already play it although I'm yet to be convinced of the merits of Smalling but maybe he just needs a run out. But the triangle of creativity behind the strikers works for me I think but playing like that you need to give players regular time together and have clear plan of what you want neither of which we do currently. So ship on some of the guff from the squad, replace the LB, new CB maybe, new midfielder, find a formation and stick with it, give players like Kagawa, Fletcher and Jones and decent run in one starting line-up. And our problems are solved?
I also have the thought that Zaha would work well such a midfield position moving inside or out, thoughts?

Agree - can't expect Januzaj to play every game so he would be more of an exciting option than Young or Valencia (Zaha on the right, Mata on the left but not as orthodox wingers).slimtater said:

And even worse than that I just don't think our current wingers are up to it, I'd rather players like Zaha and Januzaj who can go down the outside or through the middle.

Pains me to say this but City are now miles ahead of us in terms of flair, ability, depth and "watchability".
Even the year the pipped us to the title on goal difference (and despite the hammering they gave us at home which was a real bad for us v a real good day for them) the gulf didn't seem that big.
What a difference a new manager can make.....

Question to United fans on here:-
Do you think if SAF had been in charge things would have been any different this season? (Bear in mind, by all accounts he was at loggerheads with Wayne Rooney).
Slightly but not vastly, Rooney would have likely gone and SAF is worth a number of points on his ownDo you think if SAF had been in charge things would have been any different this season? (Bear in mind, by all accounts he was at loggerheads with Wayne Rooney).
I'd estimate we'd be 4th but I think yourselves and Chelsea would have had too much for us this season regardless

Rooney would almsot definitely have gone but there would have been more action in the transfer window. I read an article a couple of weeks ago saying that Moyes problem in the summer was that he didn't arrive until 1st July and wanted to spend two or three weeks looking at players before deciding who to buy. By the time that was done there was "only" a month left and with Gill replaced by Woodward things were not handled as well as they could have been. Apparently Ferguson was adamant that he should buy any players for Moyes.
It's not just Utd that have gone backwards but the previous season their two biggest rivals Chelsea and Man City were under par because of the managers they had in place. Utd also had RVP scoring for fun last season.

I don't think it's quite as easy to say that SAF would have Utd in fourth. If SAF and Gill hadn't have gone there would have been people in place to handle the summer transfers much better. Rooney may well have gone but who's to say someone like Fabregas, Sneijder or some other decent midfielder might have been signed. You'd also have the same backroom staff that managed to get RvP through last season without much injury!I don't think you'd be strong enough for City, but it's not hard to imagine you being in the mix for top three.
