Things would definitely have been different if SAF was still in charge. Rooney would be gone, Fellaini would still be at Everton and I reckon we would have got Ozil or maybe even Ronnie.

I can see that but he could already change formation with the players you have but he hasn't. Is Mata that good that he would change the whole style of play for him?

Sounds like he's had a couple of Fosters for the first time.

I think Rooney is off so Mata will slot into the number 10 role when that happens, right now our issue is creativity and Mata has that in spades, he is also only 25 and was Chelsea's player of the year 2 seasons in a row

TL;DR

Yes

YES, paid for them myself, you should try it sometime and stop being Scouse and get behind Untd, they will come round, just give it a few (20) years or so.smile

So would you mind losing Rooney to get Mata? Why Maureen would even think about allowing Mata to go to Man Utd would be beyond me. Wenger did the same thing and look how that worked out (not that he had much choice where he went really). I can't believe you would be the only club in for him if he were to be sold.

How long has Mata left on his Chelsea contract?

Maureen has either gone soft in his old age or he genuinely feels sorry for you!

He did say he wasn't interested in Rooney any more but he's a wily ol' sod so I wouldn't believe too much of what he says.

However, ONE player does not a summer make - although it is one way to cure one of your problems, but there are others that will need addressing.

Edit: Wenger and RvP of course.

Rooney is going at some point in the next 18 months so we may as well accept that and build for life without him. I'd rather have someone who wants to be at OT than someone who doesn't. Letting him go isn't the issue, it's where he goes and what that does to any title challenge we might have in the future that's the risk. Similar but less important for Chelsea in terms of who they sell Mata to if they choose to let him go.

I still think Rooney will be gone in this window

A straight swap of Rooney for Mata would probably be better business for United than Chelsea. Possible??
