Rangers & Celtic - Coming To The EPL Very Soon Apparently!
Discussion
Well, according to Rangers chief executive Charles Green anyway
He an Englishman (Yorkshire) and he says "I have spoken to a number of chief executives from Premier League clubs and all of them would welcome Rangers. Of the people I have spoken to directly, or people on my behalf have spoken to, throughout the leagues - 20 - only two have said no."
Within 5 years he says - and he could be right if attendances continue to fall in any great numbers.
So, its to 2 from the likes of Southampton, Wigan, Reading and Liverpool etc and hello to the Old Firm.
Personally I wouldn't want to see it happen as (apart from anything else) it really will be the death knell for Scottish football - however increasingly I begin to wonder if its fair that Welsh clubs can compete in the EPL but Scottish clubs can't.
Anyway, there's more here:

No..... It´s really as simple as that.
The new Rangers and Celtic are in the Scottish league and I don´t think they could even come directly into the Conference as there are many rules. Despite the Scottish FA breaking their own rules allowing New Rangers into the 3rd division, I cannot see the English FA doing the same.
In all honesty what do New Rangers and Celtic bring to English football? Some revenue through minor increased ticket sales, increased journeys for the fans, a lot of noise from people like Green who seems to speak first and think later.
What do New Rangers and Celtic get? Increased TV revenue, greater exposure, the ability to attract better players. It´s attractive to them, but not to the other clubs as much. Sure there may be a couple of games with higher gates, but the beneficiaries would be Celtic and New Rangers
This is just Green trying to seed the idea and I for one hope that if either team wishes to join the English league, that they start in the bottom tier like any other team.
I truly hope that they do not get the chance to take over a current team and "jump" into the league.
What Green is really saying is that New Rangers and Celtic control the fate of Scottish football and he might be right, but it´s a shoddy way of acting.

Welsh clubs participate in the English leagues because until 1992 there was no Welsh National league. Once one was formed clubs were able to choose which to compete in.
Scottish clubs have a perfectly adequate league of their own so no need for any Scottish clubs to join the EPL - even if they wanted to play in England then they should have to start at the bottom of the pyramid and not waltz in at the top.

It'll never happen.
The English teams have worked hard for the last 30 yrs trying to rid clubs of racism and bigotry. None of them are going to let those 2 in and find ourselves instantly back in 1977.
Celtic & Rangers, no thanks. If they were playing each other in my back garden, I'd draw the curtains and turn the stereo up.

I can't recall the last time there was any mention of racism in Scottish football. If the English teams have been trying to get rid of it for 30 years, they've not been doing a great job! Charles Green says a lot of things, and a very large percentage of them are bks.
Like his comment in the article that there would never be an empty seat if Rangers were in town. Does he really think they're that big?!iim said:

Like his comment in the article that there would never be an empty seat if Rangers were in town. Does he really think they're that big?!i live in dumfries, small town, almost as south as you can go, and even here every is either a celtic fan or a rangers fan, they also happen to be man united fans or liverpool fans aswell. not saying there all glory hunters but i would be suprised if i could find a fan of any other spl team within the town.
and with scottish football dominated by two teams even with one getting a kick in the "baws" it will always be the same. personally i would be bored stiff if i was celtic fan. wheres the fun in knowing you probably going to win anyway when your playing clubs with cow sheds as stadiums and the teams can barely pay their players
So, so, many angles to this.
(I'm a Celtic fan)
I have thought for a long time that Scottish football would be better off without the old firm -a lot of teams competing to win something would increase gates.
Also, sectarianism, which has been on the wane for many years might actually die as the emphasis would instantly go from Celtic v Rangers and playing Manure, etc would a greater attraction.
and please don't come the innocent angle from down south, I've seen far more bother at elland road v Swindon town than at Celtic v Rangers -but then I'm not looking for it.
The immediate attraction from the will come from Sky, several turkeys would have to vote for xmas to allow teams in whose potential, in worldwide terms are only matched by manure.
Personally, although I would love to see Celtic in the EPL i think a european league is more likely.......sometime,
a bigger, more immediate problem is the potential demise of the Scottish premier
