It is generally accepted that an outfield player peaks at 27 years old. So why do the Premier League teams spunk so much cash on foreign 27+ somethings, knowing full well that their value is dropping by the day? Man City have just spent nearly 50 million on two players of that age who are not even first choice for their countries. The rest of Europe must laugh at the way we take their old players off their hands for silly money.

I think the peak has moved. With advances in excercise and nutrition I believe a player can still progress until he's 30 minimum. Look at RVP, he's 29 now and has had he's best season.

Suppose it comes down to those players having an immediate impact on the strength of the team. I doubt city give two hoots about what they will get for them in a couple of years. It could be that those two players are the key to getting some silverwear.

Tbf, Navas would get into any other National side. The choice of Spanish midfielders is crazy

A short term strategy that means nothing when money is no object.
