There is the small matter of wages though....the new players will combined be earning a lot more than the departures. Probably £10 to £20mil more a season in total.

Ok, creative accountancy aside, what our spuddy disputants will find harder to counter is the one chance they had for squad improvement has been well and truly wasted. The superdane isn't bad but no world beater and as for the rest - well looks like Dodgy Danny is determined that the manager pull some justification for signing Lamela in the ashes of another season (hereafter to be called the Great Leap back)

And as we Gooners know the "no net investment in the squad" scenario is not one that brings success.....

Ozil in the squad tomorrow. Good to see!

Be very hard on Poldi if he gets benched after his brace against WHU but I'd imagine that's likely. Suddenly there's competition again in midfield!

@ £43M & £170K a week i think he bloody well should be playing.

Dissappointing season really for the money.

No chance, he'll be on the bench and get 20-25 mins at the end.

I hope we win the FA Cup, mainly for Sagna and Rosicky, they have been great players for this club and don't deserve to leave without lifting a cup.
You need to, else players will leave

Christ, it's gotta be Liverpool's title now.... and how the fk did we conspire to get beaten 6-0 by Chelsea again?!

I wonder if Arsene is feeling a bit silly, wasn't it just a couple of weeks ago that he said "we all know the biggest budget will win the league"?

When you see how we've struggled since he's been out maybe not.

Without doubt he's found it tough as Wenger said this week.

When I've seen him live this season he just does things other players can't....he's able to leave other players flat footed and buy space like very very few players I've ever seen. He's got that X factor that Bergkamp....very different player but can do things of a similar vein. If we get the right guy to play in front of him and Ramsey and Walcott stay fit to make runs off him next season we'll do very well.

Absolutely. Shows they know fk all about business.

For a business to make £100m on the sale of assets and the piss it away is outrageous. In any other business the board would have been held to account for their financial missmanagement, however it in football it's dismissed as one of those things.

Tottenham found themselves in a fantastic position to strengthen following the sale of Bale and they totally fked it.

Please don't mention Bergkamp in the same breath as Ozil. I'm hopeful Ozil will come good, especially if we add the right players this summer. However, Ozil isnt fit to lace Bergkamps boots!

Not saying he's in DB10's class but there's something about his ball control and the way he can just leave other players for dead with a drop of the shoulder which you don't see very often. We've not seen anyone in an Arsenal shirt since Bergkamp that had his first touch IMHO.

Id be inclined to agree. I thought he was more of a 'flair' player when he joined to be honest, but he's much more subtle than that and his work off the ball that you don't see on camera is very important.

He hasn't set the league alight in his first season but it has been a pretty solid start. Best not to forget just how highly regarded he was when at Real Madrid - he was genuinely seen as one of the very best in the world. We may not remember him in a decade in the same way we remember Bergkamp now, but he has the potential and talent to be at that level for us. Hopefully he can stay injury free next season and with hopefully a couple of additions around him (as well as certain players coming back from injury) he'll be up there as one of the best in the league.

Rather unfair on Ozil there - he hasn't even finished his 1st season with us so we have no idea how he will end up compared to Bergkamp (my favourite ever Arsenal player by the way). Bergkamp didn't start as well as Ozil did in the first few months and by the end of season I expect their first year stats will be pretty similair. And just like Bergkamp's arrival heralded something of a new 'era' at the club - if Arsenal buy a player of Ozil quality every year then his arrival could be seen in the same light.

Maybe I'm just being overly optimistic but I have every confidence that Ozil will be a great player for Arsenal.
