Not sure it's the end of Jenks myself, recently signed a new contract, why not send him out on loan for a couple of seasons. Debuchy isn't young and I think chambers will be moved to a more central position, maybe even DM?

Gibbs ex agent who's recently retired has said the club are working on one more high profile name, and is very likely to be completed. Not a name that's been mentioned either.

Hope you're right on both counts....I think it's really important to have players like Jenks around who eat, sleep and breathe being an Arsenal player....it's almost like it means more to him because he got plucked out of Charlton which I bet he never expected.

Sounds like Chambers can play across the back four which as anyone that plays football manager knows is a key attribute to have in your squad!

Wenger's not stupid nobody he's bought so far addresses that physicallity in midfield...all this stuff about Wilshere playing DM is bks in my opinion, just not got the physical presence or the pace in my opinion. Wilshere's exceptional ability is his first touch, short passing and ability to be a fk wit.

Let's hope he buys that DM...then we have every reason to compete.

You know we're having a good window when the Spuds keep stum wink

I actually think jack could well thrive being a DM. Quick feet, great vision, OK tackling. Not sure he has the discipline needed though. He's very attack minded, can't see him staying back all the time.

Given the choice I'd rather see him further afield. He's got a mountain to climb if he wants to get there though. He's quite a bit down in the pecking order IMO. Even worse off if we get any of the names floating around.

Just seen a video of Jenks leading the 'what do you think of Tottenham' chant in New York.

Maybe it because I'm an old fart but does anyone else think our players should have a bit more class? I cringed when Jack belted it, and I did so again with Jenks.

Can't see Arsne being happy about that sort of behaviour, really is unnecessary IMHO.

Pace is an advantage but is not essential for this role.

Assuming we complete the Ospina and Chambers signings to add to Sanchez and Debuchy we just need that physical presence in midfield and I think we will have a very competitive squad.

I'm in 2 minds about adding another forward with the options available to us; Sanchez, Giroud, Podolski, Walcott and Campbell gives us variety. I would be quite happy to see how the front line develops over the first few months of the season.

So, Wenger has spoken about David Ospina being an Arsenal player, Nice have confirmed he's an Arsenal player. However, the snails running our media communications at the club have confirmed nothing. biggrin

I don't see how that prevents the club confirming the signing. The photos and interviews could be completed at a later date.

I imagine the new £30mil a year kit supplier might have something to say about that.....and the shirt sponsor.

  1. Facepalm - Well there's our physical presence for mid-field. Just like a brand new signing. Just hope this time there's a vet with a humane killer standing by when the inevitable fetlock injury occurs

If he was fit Diaby is probably a better bet as a DM.....you need someone who is 6ft in that role...you can't have two midgits in the middle of the park with the rest of our team lacking height, one of them has to have some height/be able to win the ball in the air. Khedira is 6ft 2in for example, Matic is 6ft 4in, Gilberto was 6ft 1in, Vieira 6ft 4in, Petit 6ft 1in....Jack's 5ft 7in.

When you look at the rest of our team the only tall players we have are BFG, Kozzer and Giroud.....we need another tall player for set pieces both defending them and hopefully attacking from them.

Think about Yaya Toure playing centrally with Ozil, Ramsey and Wilshere playing centrally against him. Having that physical advantage doesn't just count in the air...when it comes to shielding the ball it's a massive advantage. Anyone who played football at school against a kid 7in taller then him knows what an advantage it was!

Sagna was the go to man for goal kicks because he was the only player capable of winning aerial battles.

The only short arse I can think of who has excelled as a DM is Makele but he played in a very physical Chelase team so didn't really need it.

Now this is what I call a transfer window.

Finally strengthening the team properly. Just need a DM now and I then say call it a day for this window.

I can not stress how pleased I am to have these players at the club early so that we have 3 weeks to work on things in training. I give credit to the board and Wenger for that (Yes - I really did just type that!)
