He is 100% right about paying down the stadium debt. Given the shareholders are basically two incredibly wealthy/cash rich billionaires it makes total sense for the shareholder to do it.. By doing so they'd be giving the club more money to invest in the team/squad/facilities/infrastructure. When you look at the inflation in football it's an absolutely no brainer....cost of world class players has roughly doubled in the last three years...vs having cash sat in the bank earning 0.00001%.
IIRC the debt is tied up in bonds until 2030; it'd cost a fair bit more to pay it off early. Can't see any good businessman doing that.To put it another way (and somewhat crudely) the owner's gamble is that Wenger can invest that money in players which will go up in value quicker than 4.5% a year.
Interesting interview, it proves that for better or for worse Usmanov was never actually interested in taking over the club and Arsenal spending it's way to trophies with the help of his billions- he views it as one (of many) investments he makes, motivated purely by return.
He's the richest man in Russia, and Britain- financially on another level to Kronke and any other shareholder. If he had ambitions of running the club he would have just made an offer to good to turn down...

Seems to be a lot of stories about us closing in on Reus.
He's a player Arsne has gushed about for years. If he's available then I'd put good money down on him being inquired about. Rosicky is also his idol so you never know ....Although common sense would indicate he's not what we need, but then when has common sense been used in Arsenals transfer policy. Looks like we'll be lining up with 10 attacking midfielders in front of Schezney

Perhaps two or even three more players will be joining before the window closes?
Well Besiktas have put in some preparation of playing English sides ahead of this game...

Wenger knows we are trying to increase numbers in defence, I think he chose a player we wouldn't let go on purpose as he didn't want us to have Vermaelen

That it is! Shame it did't work out for him after being immense in the first couple seasons. I think a change will do him good.Edited by Trophybloo on Friday 8th August 11:42
So Mertesacker or Koscielny for the captaincy?

Wenger was after Smalling when he went to Man U so makes total sense. Great to see us holding firm and not letting him go to Man U....times realty are changing! Rumour is Arteta is getting the captaincy, should be BFG. What I love about BFG more than anything is that his brother sounds equally bonkers....he goes to a lot of the away games on the coaches with all the regular fans. Loves the intensity and camaraderie apparently.

I really have had the feeling for a long time that Merte is very happy at Arsenal, it seems he's very popular in the dressing room too. He's got huge experience and he's a winner the perfect candidate for the job. Rumour is Arteta is getting the captaincy, should be BFG.
