I'm also a little surprised that he has come out and said this, surely it can't do Welbeck's confidence or respect for Arsene any good and also shows potential rifts in the management of the club.
Agreed, if it is true as reported, that is a really strange thing to say - complain internally, but don't create rifts.
I haven't heard the interview in full. However, I agree if that's what's been said it's fking diabolical!

He apparently wanted the lad on loan with a view to buy. I'm personally pleased the board pushed the deal through forced the senile ol' goat's hand.
I know it's the Daily Star....but, they reported today that it was intervention by several Arsenal players that persuaded Wenger to sanction the signing of Welbeck.

From the Star:-
Gunners skipper Mikel Arteta and vice captain Per Mertesacker played a key role in sealing the surprise £16m signing of England star Welbeck.
Starsport can reveal the pair took it upon themselves to urge the club to land Welbeck on transfer deadline day after learning only Tottenham were in for the striker.
Spurs wanted to sign Welbeck - who scored both goals in England's 2-0 Euro 2016 qualifying win in Switzerland on Monday - on a year's loan from Manchester United.
But Spaniard Arteta and German Mertesacker campaigned for Wenger to snatch the 23-year-old from their bitter north London rivals.
The amazing late drama came after Arteta and Mertesacker met Welbeck in the Arsenal gym at their Hertfordshire training ground.
Welbeck had been training at the complex with England prior to their Wembley friendly against Norway.
As they chatted the Arsenal duo realised there was a chance the Gunners could snap up Welbeck with a surprise bid.
After stating their case, boss Arsene Wenger - who was in Rome to manage a team in the Interrelgious Match for Peace on deadline day - was persuaded to sanction a last-ditch bid for Welbeck, having failed to land either Radamel Falcao, who joined United, or Swansea's Wilfried Bony.
His England team-mates Jack Wilshere, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcott had already told Wenger what a good addition the Manchester-born star would be both on and off the pitch.
United eventually agreed to sell Welbeck, who joined the Gunners in a five-year deal.
But without the players' intervention is unlikely Welbeck would have ended up in an Arsenal shirt.

You've got to love the tripe the media come out with. Unless Mert and Arteta was in Rome with him then we can safely say that's a load of bks!

Having seen the interview I think Arsne was alluding to the fact that he was up early for his trip to Rome. Nothing sinister IMO. I very much doubt Arsne would sign a player he didn't really want.

Mr Wenger is far to clever to tell us what really happened , he may seem crazy at times but he's no fool for that's for sure.

I think Welbeck is a fantastic signing for the Arsenal,

when you're clearly short in key positions and want full control of who is signed; don't leave the country to referee a charity game.

I'm really glad I was wrong, I think Welbeck really could do a great job for us and I'd have hated his career to have started with a cloud over it.

Here's to him starting this weekend and bagging a couple to give us the win.

I watched a lot of the U21 game against Villa last night and they're looking quite good as a young unit. Great to see Diaby play most of the game (I went out at about 82mins, so don't know if he did the full 90).

And that is why you need to have a world class striker. City were being out played and yet one good chance and it's a goal.

Yep it's pretty brutal but that's the way it goes.

Just read that Arse have conceded a header in all 4 of their games this season (in PL). Something to work on obviously!

Actually I think we had the best defensive record against set pieces last season in the PL

Debouchy out for two months, Time for Bellerin to step up. Quite excited to see what he can do, he was flawless againts benfica a few months back.

And can someone please make Arsne play Ozil CM. the boy is not a funking winger. How can everyone in he world see that but not him. We have one of the best attacking Mids in the world and we stick him out in the bloody wings. He has no pace, can't beat a man easily and doesn't track back, yet Arsne seems intent on playing him wide confused

Alexis is quickly looking like value for money, fantastic to see him in our strip. Could be the second best signing in the transfer window behind Costa (annoyingly) Can see him scoring for fun when he gains momentum.

We really need a DM, Flamini and Arteta just don't cut it IMO.
