Arsenal's cash balance is now £200mil despite being the third highest net spenders over the last two seasons (behind Man City and Man Utd).
The important thing in all this IMHO is where we are within the net spending and what that means for the long term. Chelsea's largess in the transfer market has been financed by coming into the FFP era with an incredibly bloated squad and a massive amount of players out on loan. It was really smart but you can't see them repeating it easily in the future. The likes of De Bruyne and Lukaku were sold for a combined £50mil which is money without which they couldn't have bought Cesc and Matic. That's why Mourinho has suddenly turned into the biggest advocate of FFP and the strict enforcement...because he knows Chelsea aren't in the Top 3 financially any more. It's the two Manchester clubs and then Arsenal. Chelsea do have a young squad though....they have done a good job of rejuvinating it.

With the number of players they own they should at least be able to break even on them for quite some time (and certainly stay within FFP). As you say they have identified a way to generate cash from player sales by owning a lot of players & loaning them out. The ones that are good enough will come "home", the ones they don't want will still generate cash when they are sold. All they have to do is keep buying young players in sufficient numbers. Man City on the other hand are doing something not dissimilar by setting up and/or buying entire football clubs. I think I saw somewhere that the intention is that the "group" will eventually have 5 clubs in it. Wouldn't be a surprise to see others trying to follow the same model(s).

They're going to clamp down clubs ability to loan players...I think Chelsea have something like 25 players on loan. Greg Dyke is trying to bring in next season clubs cannot loan out players from non EU countries and I am sure they will try and restrict the quantum too. The non EU players bit will be interesting...Vela, Campbell, Miyachi are three that come to mind.

Then the Manchester City model of buying clubs in other leagues (in which to "place" young players) will win out. There is no reason a good player will not develop perfectly well in the MLS, La Liga, French, or Italian leagues - and there are plenty of cash strapped clubs around (maybe not so much in the US).
This came up on Sky Sports website. Is Wenger being serious? Someone so injury plagued to be the new defensive midfielder?

What is there to lose....he's not going to get a game ahead of Ramsey and Wilshere. He's got a ton of ability on the ball and crucially given we have a team of diddy men (Kozzer and BFG are the only players over 6ft) gives us some height for attacking/defending set pieces. http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11670/9487...
Playing that role probably also asks less of him physically...there's no way Arteta would cover the same ground as Ramsey during a game for example.

Delighted with the performance of Ozil and Alexis when he came on looked lively. Welbeck was good in the first half not so the second, summed up by his 'involvement' for the goal.
This game highlights how costly it may be not having a proper quality defensive midfielder.
