Waste of money is a big statement and it's early days but so far this season Welbecks played in 10 premiere league games and scored two. That's not a great return.
I am not sure where you got your statistics from...

Total - Played: 12 - Goals: 5 - Assists: 2
Prem - Played: 8 - Goals: 2 - Assists: 2
Champs - Played: 4 - Goals: 3 - Assists: 0

As I said, he's played in 10 premiere league games.

2 for United with no goals, 8 for Arsenal with 2 goals.

Taking all games into account it's a prem goal every four or five games this season, same as ever.

I would wager he will finish on 10 prem goals at most and 12-15 at most in total.

Let's see.

How on earth can you judge Welbecks performance and contribution for Arsenal when you include stats from his previous club?

Yes, he needs more goals, then again we knew that when he signed him. Compare his performances to the other deadline day strikers; Balotelli, Falcao (who apparently is worth £50m) & Remy. Without a doubt Welbeck has had the biggest impact.

Also take in to account the lopsided, disjointed midfield he's playing front of and the utter moron of a manager, think he's doing very well indeed.

5 goals in 12 games. Yep fking terrible record that! rolleyes

A little bit selective with your comparison there. Why include Remy and not Costa?

What, the deadline day part? Yes I read that but then you went on to mention Balotelli who wasn't signed on the deadline day. Even Remy was technically signed the day before deadline day. So then I assumed you didn't know what you were talking about.

And you can't include Balotelli, He's not a striker he's just a piece of furniture we put on the pitch in the hope the ball bounces off him now and then.

Oh I see, we have us a pedant.

Balotelli signed the week before, Remy the day before, Falcao and Welbeck on the day itself. The point remains; of all the late striker signings Welbeck is arguably the player that has had the most impact is he not?

Now, if you want to take this to another level then you compare Costa to Alexis. I'd argue that the impact of Alexis has been greater than Costa purely because we've played st, got a st manager and group of individuals as opposed to a team.

Not sure why any of them being a 'late signing' should come into it. That's not there fault - simply a property of their respective new clubs not being able to get their st together in a timely manner.

I think Sanchez and Costa have been about on par. Costa is obviously getting more goals because he's an out and out striker. But if you look at Chelsea last year, who were struggling to keep pace with us (Liverpool) and City, compared with now - they are romping away with the league without hardly trying.

As for Welbeck, based on his appearances so far, compared with other similarly priced strikers (Sturridge, Balotelli) I'd put him round about in the middle. I don't think he's going to be as consistent as he is now (or as Sturridge) but then he's certainly an improvement on what you had, on Balotelli and quite an astute bit of business.

I'm not judging his performance I'm just quoting the facts which are a goal every four or five games.

Impossible to judge after 10 games but my thoughts are....

Costa's playing in front of the best midfield by far in the PL and cost twice as much so yes he should look a lot better....Welbeck was great value as many a disgruntled Man U supporter will tell you and has done well for Arsenal so far in a team which is struggling. He also looks pretty good value against Lallana who is 3 years older and cost £10mil more.

Costa was definitely a decent purchase for the money but then he cost the same as Sanchez and I know who I would rather have. Balotelli is looking like shocking business....

What's fking sickening is that Arsenal actually had a decent summer in the transfer market....Sanchez, Welbeck, Ospina, Debuchy and Chambers except the one fking position where we were desperate for cover!!!!!!!

But Welbeck looks crap against Sterling, who is 4 years younger and cost £15.5m less. But then both comparisons are utterly bizarre...

Put your toys away.
Still willing to take the wager you'll be rid of Van G before we retire the Puffa coat! And nothing I said on the Yanknited thread has any bearing on the views I hold about the team I support. But as you are a delusional bunch of self-entitled vicarious thrill seekers I wouldn't expect comprehension from you in a million years - back under your stone!

That's exactly why it's relevant. They are all perceived to be panic buys and in many eyes Welbeck was seen as a lesser player by many. In fact, many sniggered at us and some Arsenal fans sneered at the move. As far as I'm concerned he's done very well and there's definitely more to come.

I hope your right, The past few games he hasn't produced the goods (for club.) I'm still undecided, I hope he proves me wrong but he just seems a quicker Giroud to me. Good solid player, but if we want to challenge the very best then he won't do.

I see Jack is answering his critics, deep lying midfielder his best position? Always seen him as a no.10 but he's played very well in that position the past couple of England games.

He's quite a different player to Giroud....Giroud's clearly nowhere near as mobile/quick but I'd argue has got a better "touch"...infuriating as he can be he's also capable of some sublime layoff's/flicks....think "JW's goal of the season" last year. I'd go fro Welbeck personally!

Be interesting to see who comes out as No 1....Giroud's certainly got a lot more competition for his place now than ever before. Decisions seem to be Ox/Walcott on the right and Welbeck/Giroud up front though I don't see either Giroud or Walcott being really match sharp for a few weeks.
