From what I saw of Gabriel last season he settled in very well.....didn't look out of his depth at all. When you consider he's a) South American b) came from Spain and c) came in mid-season he did acclaimatised really, really well. As for Chambers he came in last season became a regular starter at CB because of injuries and six weeks into the season people couldn't get enough of how great a prospect/what a great buy he was. It was only when Chambers played a few games at right back that he struggled last season....it's not his best position. Let's also not forget that he was half the price that Chelski are rumoured to be bidding for Stones.....
The three obvious areas of improvement where are genuine top class player would enhance the side to me are striker, defensive midfield and thirdly I would say left back. As good as Gibbs and Monreal are I don't think either truly convince and you could justify an upgrade there more than CB.

I think Gabriel looked ok last season with the considerations you mentioned. Whether he is top top quality remains to be seen for me. I agree chambers has good potential, though in the games I went to and saw on TV gets booked too often needlessly ( probably down to experience).
I thought Montreal was the weakest link in the squad but he was really good last season, most improved player for me keeping Gibbs out.
It wouldn't bother me if no striker was signed, think Theo can play up front as another option and there are goals from any number of midfielders.
But as Alfa mentioned, a top quality DM really would strenthen the team, Coq was really good second half of the season, but he alone is not enough(he's no Matic yet) I think Arteta and Flamini have had there day and if no one is signed I fear they'll get starts.

That's an excellent shout regarding left back. The other issue with both Monreal and Gibbs is fitness, at times they've both picked up injuries quite frequently. I think at the centre of our defence we're covered with Mertesacker, Koscielny, Gabriel & Chambers I really do. I'd like to see Chambers given more game time in that position this season.
You can't read anything into friendly results but we looked really lively yesterday....tons of energy.
The Charity Shield will be a great benchmark next weekend....fk knows who he picks in midfield.
Walcott's apparently signed a new contract. I wonder when the last year was we didn't have someone leave we wanted to retain ?

Apparently Arsenal have just signed Donyell Malen from Ajax. Only 16 but apparently he's shot. Hopefully we'll see him, Bielik and Dragomir once or twice this season in the Carling Cup. All look good prospects.
If he's half as good as Reaine-Adelaide who I'd never heard of til this weekend he'll be friggin good. He's looked quite something for a 17yr old....signed from a French club a couple of months ago. Set up the goal today. Cheib said:

Yeah he's looked very good. Haven't heard of zelalem being mentioned this pre season mind - he is another one it would be good to see more of.aeropilot said:

It's the 5th, 6th & 7th places that I find more interesting.....in terms of a spend to trophy ratio over the same period. That really doesn't look good for us scrubchub said:
