£300,000 per week, six-year deal.
I feel sick.
Good luck to him, or any other top footballer...I feel sick.
It's a short career, and if any club are daft enough to pay it..........
I agree Footy is a commercial world and also that USA sports stars and actors earn far more
Also lots of footy stars do lots for charity but they only make headlines on the negative stuff
Rupert Murdoch privatized footy and turned ballkickers just a few years out of school into instant milionaires before they were 25yrs old.
My issue is not with the players themselves though in collaboration with their agents they do shoulder some blame.
Also I've no problem with performance related pay where a basic salary is topped up with extras for scoring, clean sheets etc. This could even be funded by Mr Murdoch by evenly distributing royalties to all clubs to use instead of the usual 'names' dominating it all. Then each club could get its house in order and we might see another team outside the usual ManYooManCityChelski year after year zzzzzz
Crazy thoughts I know...

Certainly don't feel sorry for them, but it must be a big change coming from many thousands of pounds a week to zilch when their contract finally expires....
Of course players of the calibre of Bale, Aquero and Rooney need never work again.

6 years? Why any club would commit to that amount of time seems crazy to me.
I thought the same, but R5 explained that the transfer fee can be divided over the contract time, so as far as UEFA's Fair Play system is concerned he only cost £14M this year (£28M if you include wages). As Real Madrid's income is c600M Euros, they won't spend more than they earn .TangerinePool said:
Truly sickening amount of money for ONE person to kick a ball about for 90 minutes and in a country already completely on its ar5e.
It truly is time for fans of ALL clubs to get together and repel this money obsessed nonsense that poisons the game.
A strange outlook. It's not as if any of us would turn it down.It truly is time for fans of ALL clubs to get together and repel this money obsessed nonsense that poisons the game.
Personally I quite like the thought of a lad having his wildest dreams come true, all because he's talented with a football. I'm not bitter just because I'm not.
He could be on 1,000,000 a week and it wouldn't affect me, so fair play to him and everyone else that gets paid stupid money to play football.

My other post hopefully clarifies that I have no issue with the players themselves. I myself would snatch it all if I had the ability. No issue with Bale in any way whatsoever and I agree he is a wonderfully gifted footballer (and could have possible given olymic diving a go if the footy hadn't worked out ).Personally I quite like the thought of a lad having his wildest dreams come true, all because he's talented with a football. My despair is aimed at the structure of the game which is currently pricing fans out (without which there would be no lucrative game in the first place) whilst the 'top' teams and their sheiks are pricing all other teams out or forcing them to spend beyond their means to try and compete. It's completely ridiculous that the team with the most money 'wins'.

I misunderstood what you meant, apologies.
I honestly don't understand what Madrid see in him. IMO, the most overrated hyped-up player of the last decade. Not even the best player in the league last season by far. Considering Van Persie was top goal scorer and is only worth £22m.
Madrid are probably hoping for him to be a long term replacement for Ronaldo. Haha dream on Ancelotti.

Van Persie is 29, and an out and out striker, so not really comparable?
I'm no Spurs fan, yet I cannot understand how someone can call Gareth Bale overrated, especially if they watched him in action last season.
To the age of 30/31, they are both worth about the same. Real Madrid want to keep him while he is at his best and then get rid while he is still worth something (barring injury). This is what they did with Raul.I'm no Spurs fan, yet I cannot understand how someone can call Gareth Bale overrated, especially if they watched him in action last season.
Transfer money is mostly Monopoly money as it just circulates between the clubs. Wages, on the other hand, are a great earner for the taxman (unless you played for Rangers ).

Then there's the thorny question of TV rights and whether the Spanish system can really continue as it is since it's one of the reasons La Liga is about as competitive as the Scottish league. That brings the question of short Vs long term income stream.

Gareth Bell joined Real Madrid for a short speech: "I wanted to come here even if it was for a penny."
He's got a future in comedy when the football career ends, even after the by deed poll tiny name change. He carelessly omitted to say 'but a 15m (net) pa annual stipend will do quite nicely. Thanks!'
Doubt somehow that he asked to be paid a peppercorn salary for the privilege of playing for RM.
BTW - El Presidente really is a short arse, isn't he.

Did I hear right on the news this morning that he'll be benched for a while because he isn't match fit?
300 bags a week and the man isn't fit enough to play the game? terrible.
Or maybe it was another bale?
Same one, just he hasn't trained much (if at all) for the last 8 weeks. Not surprised he isn't match fit. 300 bags a week and the man isn't fit enough to play the game? terrible.
