At least my brother would come with me to watch West Ham vs Fulham but I think the problem was that Fulham (am I allowed to mention this) got relegated in the late 60s (was it 67? I remember George Cohen breaking his ankle or something and it went downhill from then) so there weren't really many time when we played against each other while Dad was alive.
I remember pestering my Mum to let me go to Upton Park and eventually my older brother took me. The deal was that if I could tell Mum how to get there without prompting I could go on my own next time, I was 10. So, after the game (Burnley 3:1) he kept drilling me on the train, "Piccadilly to Barons Court, change on to the District to Upton Park. Turn right and the ground's over the road!" I got it right and from then on went all on my own as a 10 year old, how many parents would allow a kid to do that now?
The other thing that I recollect, and lord knows how we did it given that mobile phones weren't invented, is that in later years, if Fulham were also at home, I'd get off the District at Hammersmith to meet up with my Dad & brother who would by then have bought the Standard "Classified" and we'd review the results over a pint before continuing home. Life was a lot slower back then

You can say 'relegation' in here all right. We're kind of accustomed to it. Well, those of us of a certain age.
Me and my Dad used to meet Mum and sister at Hammersmith Broadway after matches, they'd go up 'west' for the shops. First time we did that, Mum got it wrong and went to Fulham Broadway tube by mistake. These were days long before mobile phones. Dad got in a lather waiting for them because he twigged what she'd done, and he knew that CFC were at home too - an odd occurrence, it's not usual to happen. Sure enough, when the ladies finally arrived at Hammersmith Broadway they were very late and in a bit of a mess as they'd been cornered on the train by some CFC fans and not been allowed to exit where they wanted - the tossers threatened to 'interfere' with my sister let's say if they tried to get off (she was about 13).
Hated their fans ever since.

I lived in Wandsworth in the eighties and she was a Ch***** supporter , I had a choice , of course I did , but the temptation got to me , dragging me down , weakening me , it was dreadful . Every fortnight and sometimes during the week , the constant drip drip drip, of seduction , the sexy clothes , oh the sexy clothes ...a meal at Bibendum , I need counseling !
If you guys want me out of here I'll understand .

Carry on, mikial. Carry on. I dub thee the Anti-Mellor. You have seen the way, the truth and the light.

...I'm thinking you should be awarded an honorary FFC supporters badge...
Thanks Mikial, I'll accept that. Having stood on the Hammersmith end (just below the floodlight on the river side) many a time I reckon I deserve it. I couldn't remember if it was 4:1 or 4:2 so I Googled it. Interesting story here, I didn't know it was Bobby Robson's first game as manager or one of Macdonald's first games for the club. I was 11 and the Hammers must have been away but I realise now I was an "honorary supporter" Fulham vs Macclesfield Town, 1968 - Bobby Robson’s début match as a football manager for Fulham
On the 27th January 1968, Robson embarked on a journey into the choppy seas of football management, unaware that his failure at Fulham would propel him to heights he had never dreamed of elsewhere.
However, this was a day of celebration; his first match as the manager of Fulham in the FA Cup 3rd round against Macclesfield Town on a cold January afternoon at Craven Cottage. Despite signing ‘Supermac’, then simply Malcolm Macdonald- a spindly-legged, brash cockney youngster with bags of potential, Robson couldn't steer the club away from the gloomy abyss of the 2nd division. Robson was sacked as manager of Fulham in November 1968, and discovered of his sacking not by the Fulham board, but by the Evening Standard board in Putney Station which read “Robson Sacked”.
From that day on, Robson vowed never again to fail as a football manager and set about inadvertently discrediting Fulham’s chairman by securing some of Europe’s most prestigious club honours elsewhere.
“At the moment, Fulham Football Club aren’t getting it right in both boxes, whether it’s scoring goals or defending goals,” he stated. “So we’ve worked very hard this week on defending set-plays, but the key thing is you’ve got to have players who want to have that desire to keep the ball out of the net.
The above is a quote from the interim coach , Mr Stuart Gray.
It's entirely true , they are awful at the back and not too good up front just now , that's stating the bleedin' obvious as we all know .
Well , let's see what occurs , if any of you chaps are attending I'd value an opinion from you as unfortunately I'm stuck here in paradise just now, no sympathy please .
Merry Christmas to all and sundry and happy Hanukkah with mazal tov .

I didn't go at the weekend, but my old man (it's his fault!) was interviewed on local BBC radio before the game.
