Personally (as a Reading fan) I can see Brodgers going for Alex McCarthy, young great shot stopper (who's young enough for his distribution to be fixed). But what if it comes down to a point? Then Migolets
My flatmate last year was a Reading season ticket holder and said the same thing. I'd be quite happy with that personally. Pommygranite said:
Why do people keep suggesting we should buy players from mediocre mid table teams post season - were in the champions league, we may well win the league - surely we can aim a bit higher with experience in the champs league and international.
If you're talking about McCarthy then you should look past the position of the team that they come from. With the same reasoning would you not go for Lallana and Shaw because they "only" come from Southampton? Same with Bale and Spurs...Pommygranite said:

I read an article based on the principles that Fenway look to to form a successful team a while back and it made sense to me. The basic idea was that a successful team should be made up of mainly 90% players with 2 or 3 100% players who are capable of doing the 'clever stuff' to unlock other teams. So , assuming Suarez,Gerrard, Coutinho and Sterling are our 100%ers at the moment we need a squad of players who are all 90%+ to support and provide depth for next year.
Based on this approach we don't necessarily need to go out and 2 or 3 more 100%ers, we might be better off buying a more 90%+s to provide the squad depth for next year, and dumping those that have failed to reach the 90%.
Whether the guy from Reading is a 90%er , who knows? That's what scouts are for. But we shouldn't be limiting ourselves to only considering big names either. They come with a big price tag and aren't guaranteed to strengthen a team's overall performance on the pitch.
After watching this lad last night we should be going all guns blazing to get him in,, he was fantastic

The shame is, Man Utd sacking Moyes has probably given them a chance of getting players we previously probably stood a better chance than them of signing.
And who is going to sign for Giggs, with an unknown successor? They will stillattract players becasue of the brand and the wages they can afford but not sure Giggs is any sort of attraction - they need to announce a big name successor before the transfer shenanigans starts but I am sure the tapping up has started alreadyI think this summer is going to be a difficult transfer window for them.
No one is going to sign for them until they know who the manager is going to be. In fact how could they try to sign anyone before they get input from their new manager. So they're going to have to move quickly after the season ends to appoint their new manager. Is Mourinho going to walk out on Chelsea? Will Giggs do enough to get the post long term? Will they wait on Van Gaal?
Secondly, it's the World Cup, so there is the added complexity of some players wanting to get the tournament over before they decide their future, etc. If Manu appoint Giggs, will they want to sign for someone with new managerial experience and a club with no European football?

I cannot see Giggs being given the job full time, or any other ex-utd player (such as Steve Bruce, Keane etc..). It needs to be a big name to sort the players out and get respect and the top players to come to utd (with no european football probably). Maybe Giggs as assistant. Maureen would be their ideal candidate and I bet he would secretly like the job (whatever happens to chelsea this season)
One thing I am sure of - I bet they will win their last 3 games of the season (might have to see what the odds are on this)

It may be a strange thing appointing Giggs, yes Moyes had to go as he was dire but they may have well just left it for another 3 games but announce it anyway saying he was leaving at the end of the season.
They most likely will win there last 3 games and if they play nice football while doing it then what happens next? Do they chance it with him full time and he then cocks the job up next year (my favourite option)? Do they wait on Van Gaal until after the WC and then all hell breaks loose with signing or trying to sign players before the season starts?
I have my suspicions that Mourhino may be in the frame, don't know why I think that but I am not alone. Sad for Chelsea if he did as I feel he could really put them on the map now Ferguson has gone.
Anyhoo, don't really give two hoots.

You seem to have put a fair bit of thought into it seeing as you don't give 2 hoots They most likely will win there last 3 games and if they play nice football while doing it then what happens next? If you are interested it has been made pretty clear that Giggs is not being considered for the role long term at this time, regardless of the next few games
The main school of thought is that we will bring someone in for 2-3 years while he learns from them.
Transfers - Van Gaal doesnt historically buy players, has always worked under a DoF, as such I would imagine the club would proceed on his behalf.
Maureeen - maybe, the odds are shortening but I dont think it will happen
Not that you give 2 hoots :P
haha, I obviously couldn't care less! Couldn't you tell?
Thanks for the info though. So Giggs could well be groomed for the position in the future? Quite a tough one that is IMO, he really has to learn under an outstanding manager or from one that shares his views and style of football otherwise it really could prove fruitless. He could learn a lot regarding the politics and crap that goes on in the man management area and behind the scenes though.
Not read much about Van Gaal to be fair, could he be a case of being the only guy that is truly available, i.e. not contracted to another club?
Can't be an easy thing to decide for a club really.

Yeah its a funny one if we are grooming Giggs as my preference would be for him to get experience elsewhere and in 2-3 years time depending on his performance you'd think Solksjaer would be better placed
I think Van Gaal is more the obvious choice, much like with Liverpool the Utd job if its available has to be one that would tempt an awful lot of managers. For my money it will be Van Gaal or Ancelotti
excellent article by Robbie Savage on the game on Sunday and basically, how damn good we are.
