An interesting question put to me by my mates last night.

Men do not share a dressing/changing room with Women because of the (correctly) perceived sexual interest the male would have in watching/seeing the Women naked or undressing.

So, is not the same true for Gay players in the Male changing rooms? Would you be happy to undress and bath or shower in front of somebody who's sexual orientation meant that they could be (perhaps would be?) getting aroused?

I know the macho thing to do would be to just laugh it off but some blokes sensibilities might make them vehemently opposed to sharing a changing room with a Gay player. Religious beliefs might also come into it.

When more Gay footballers do 'come out' will there be a test case to determine the correct protocol for dealing with this situation?

Would be good if we could get a response from someone who currently plays (say) Sunday football with a team mate who's openly gay.

I'm undecided on what I think are the rights and wrongs of this issue.

I'd happily share a dressing room with anyone regardless of their sexual preference.

What if your goalkeeper said that he wasn't happy though? Would you support his stance?

It's a non question.

Anyone that's changed at a gym, sports centre, etc, will have done it withou being raped!

TBH it's not a 'rape' issue.

that said based on what my missus says about the state of the women at her gym, might not be as exciting as it sounds

It's not an 'issue' in any way, shape or form. Well, apart from unfounded bigotry smile

That would be approaching it from totally the wrong perspective.

If anyone refused to change in front of someone who might be or is gay, then they should not use a public swimming pool, or see a male Doctor in a hospital, or any number of other situations that may have need for them to remove clothing in the presence of a comparative stranger.

If any of my teammates refused to share a changing room with a homosexual, I'd tell them to stop being such an idiot.

So a man in a womans changing room is likewise a non-issue yes?

I'd be okay with it, apart from a gay center forward.
I'd be wary of anyone that regularly dribbles before he shoots. smile

given unisex or no changing rooms are common elsewhere in the world ... it seems to be a particularly british lower middle class / working class obsession ...

My old manager has come out the closet recently.

Not in the least bit fussed.

There was nothing to suggest he was gay in how he behaved in the changing room.

Was genuinely surprised when I heard the news.

Eh? A bloke in a bloke's changing room is not an issue. His sexual orientation is irrelevant.

Played in teams for 13 years and never saw an issue with anyones sexuality. Quite honestly, when we lost (which was far too often) we were more bothered about analysing the game. When we won, I recall a couple of times where someone made a quip, but most of the time, it was the gay player who started the jokes.

As I understand it men can control themselves far easier in a man vs man situation compared to if it were man vs woman, the gays are wired up differently you know bandit
