Why is the FA taking so long to decide?

Zoopla have dropped their sponsorship from next season. Storm in a teacup or is it deserved? I'm not so sure as several other footballers have been seen doing but everyone ignored it but anelka doing it seems to have prompted a massive reaction (overreaction?)

Because they have no idea what they are doing?

I'm not surprised they have dropped their sponsorship. It's bad PR, so not worth paying money for.

I've only heard of others doing it in private situations and in circumstances where they could make a convincing argument they didn't understand what it was all about. I think it's perfectly reasonable for the club to make a strong response, they pay his (presumably massive) wages after all.

I'm glad I found out about this quenelle business. I was out and about earlier and had an itchy right bicep. Thankfully, I resisted the temptation to have a quick scratch and thus managed to avoid hate crime charges.
The world's gone fking mad I tell thee.

1. sponsorship was due to end at end of season
2. Zoopla is co-owned by the Jewish businessman Alex Chesterman

Don't let facts get in the way of a good story though....

Everytime you reach up for the Branston Pickles you aren't making nazi salute.

but this chappy was not reaching for anything. Just making a nazi salute.

And Anelka was making an anti-semitic sign, not scratching his arm.

Simple matter of context.

So if other people did it and they can say they didn't know the context then why can't anelka? I've read this bloke diopadeu?s charges for anti Semitism and to be fair, France must be wayyyy over the top on antismeitisn, he is an idiot but I thought he was the 2nd Hitler the way the press talked about him.

I think he'll get six games or whatever Suarez got for racism towards evra.

Agreed. We heard the news on a long trek yesterday and nobody in the car had any idea what this quenelle gesture was and from the description could figure out in the slightest why it was considered anti Semitic.

It's a case of people being determined to be offended and as ridiculous as the argument that happened in NP&E over someone posting the bacon-cat meme being anti-Semitic.

It's no more offensive in this country than somebody giving an "up yours" raised digit, or flicking the V's. Barking.

Ooh been charged now, 6 games? Or more because antisemitism is worse than any other form of offensiveness?

Edit: Suarez actually got an 8 match ban, not 6.

The quenelle is a French variation on up yours more than anything else. The fuss is because it was brought into prominence by a French comedian who describes himself specifically as anti Zionist rather than anti semitic, so depending on your point of view, by a long series of logical extensions, various Jewish groups are up in arms over it. Or it's a contrived storm in a tea cup, blown out of all proportion.

Either way Anelka is long enough in the tooth now to realise that he really ought to be reining in the worst aspects of his distasteful personality, but once a fool, always a fool I suppose. And Obob, I wouldn't place too much faith in the French sensibility when it comes to anti semitism. If you're referring to the war time experience, an awful lot of the country from Poitiers to Marseille & Avignon to Lyon in the 'free zone' was very much on-board with Germany & actively collaborated rounding up Jews & other 'undesirables'.

If it's so offensive, why do the media repeat the footage over and over again?

Alan Cleverley, chairman of the West Brom Supporters Club, says: "It is probably a good thing [that he has kept quiet]. He has done better to keep quiet and let things take its course. He has been a little bit more sensible now than when he made the gesture.
"When it happened we were all taken aback. We didn't understand it and I think most WBA were shocked."

He didn't understand it but was shocked!

Anyhoo if he knew what he was doing and it was offensive to jews then I expect him to get 6 months.

its an "ify" situation and Anelka must of known that it was going to cause issues, as in his support of his friend who has been accused of the same thing.

No one's ever accused Anelka of not being a knob have they? Personally I have no problem with him getting pelters from all directions. Shame he's brought it on his club though.

the anti zionist sort who denies the holocaust happened, who believes the world is controlled by jews ,is anti-establishment as long as the establishment is jewish, and who preys on an audience comrpised mostly of illiterate african muslims immigrants who are extremely anti semitic ?

Factor in that france has had huge anti semitic issues ,there has been a mass exodus of jews from france the last 10-15 years.

apart from that hes an alright guy.

Dieudonné? As far as I know he's never denied the holocaust. In fact he was fined 7000 euros for calling holocaust ceremonies 'memorial pornography'. Hardly a denial of it, is it?

But if you think I'm siding with this guy, think again. I don't do extremists, weirdo's or Arsenal fans. One & the same thing, really.

So if Anelka had said in his defence, "I was saying up yours to all those who criticise me", rather than "I'm supporting my friend the anti-zionist" none of this would have happened.

I think the way Zoopla have got their knickers in a twist and made a massive deal of ending their sponsorship is as distateful as Anelka's supposed views.

Im not thinking you're siding with him, just pointing out that he is an odious piece of work hiding behind 'im not anti semitic but anti zionist when he actually is very anti semitic. He makes jokes about the holocuast ,says another comedian who is jewish should be sent to the gas chambers.etc etc.

All his AntiSemitism convictins seem to be for calling people Israeli soldiers, antisemites, sons of hitler or sons of Israeli Soldiers.

And also he can't be very pro-muslim, he seems to be best mates with Marie Le Pen. What a weird bloke!

Not sure where I stand on this to be honest. Anelka deserves a punishment I think, Zoopla were a bit childish but their contract was coming to an end anyway.
