I get the feeling that us here in the UK have no idea how bad this has been taken in Freance.

I think this is where the confusion lies, in the UK we thankfully don't have major issues with anti antisemitism and as such it seems much ado about nothing, but my understanding is it's a major issue in France and Anelka being French knew exactly what he was doing
