Sorry, wasn't suggesting any swap or deal, more the fact that Mata would be a useful addition, but not to ease the pain of losing Rooney.
With youUnfortunately I think we are going to lose Rooney regardless, I am certain he has a very good offer on the table and could go on to be a Utd legend, for one reason or another he doesn't fancy it. I don't doubt for one minute that we are working very hard to convince him but I feel in his head it is done.
It will be a shame, but by the same token we have been here before, no player is bigger than the club and we (apparently) have the opportunity to sign a very very good No 10 who is only 25 years old. Rooney won't go before the summer so maybe just maybe we can get Top 4, let Rooney go to whomever he wants in the Summer and move one of our younger stars up or purchase someone to try and replace him

He could be the difference and can score at any point so if you get him then the teams above you I feel would need to look over their shoulders.
You do however, have another No 10 in Kagawa. Whats the deal there? Formation, style of play, god knows but when he did play well he just got dropped.
As much as I like the idea of Mata as a signing I do worry that if we can't make Kagawa fit then what will we do with Mata? Ditto Zaha but I suspect that's a puzzle never to be solved. I think you need more then Mata to get top 4. He's a good player no doubt but he's hardly capable of turning around Uniteds fortune on his own.
If he was that good Jose wouldn't be pawning him off. It's a step in the right direction however, lose Rooney and its one step forward two back IMO.

Why a is it people seem to think losing Rooney is our choice? He's leaving and it will be his choice when he does. Therefore planning for life without is better than sticking out heads I. The sand.
I don't think anyone thinks Mata is the standalone solution either. But it's be a good piece in the jigsaw.

Lot's of people on here said Rooney leaving in the summer was a done deal, I didn't. He lives in the NW, his wife and kid's are settled here, we pay him a stload of money and he plays for Man U and could become the clubs alltime leading scorer if he stays. If we make the signings and become a force once again, or at least look like we're heading in that direction I think Rooney will stay but I do think it will take that more than "here's another £50k a week Wayne.". I don't think anyone thinks Mata is the standalone solution either. But it's be a good piece in the jigsaw.
How do you know he's leaving?

I don't. It's just a feeling. He's never come out and said he's staying, or that he's happy. He's just played matches. He was quite vocal through his agent and others that he wanted to leave though. It just seems very similar to when Ronnie left. It all went quiet and he started playing well again and then he left as per the hush hush agreement.

'3rd party intermediaries' It's not them blokes in suits from the summer is it?
Some guy called Rob Beasley has said that Mata was at Cobham saying goodbye today, people are saying he is connected to Chelsea but I don't know who he is

£35 million? It was £37 million according to The Wail this morning. If the bid keeps going down at this rate, we'll be selling him for a tube of Smarties by the time the window closes. The did say in the region of, I would guess it's £35 million plus add ons taking it anywhere up to £42
