Oh come on, I'm assuming you watched him play for Argentina in the WC where he played at LB for every match and proved to be one of the best wing backs there, making it in to a number of "teams of the tournament"? I'm not doubting that he can play at CB, but how many top flight central defenders have you ever known who are that good going forward? He's a natural wing back, as Tata Martino (a man far better positioned to judge than we are) clearly recognizes.

He did play there for Argentina and he was very good, but to call him an LB who can play at CB is to entirely discount his club career where his best performances have beenI'm not doubting that he can play at CB, but how many top flight central defenders have you ever known who are that good going forward? Scholes was played on the left for England, does that make him a left winger who can play in midfield? or a midfielder who was played out of position by his country as he could do a job for them?

Makes more sense being a loan deal and making it permanent next year for Monaco's FFP reasons and not ours, no? Seems far more likely to me.
Got to be Utds not Monaco...surely they'd prefer the cash now...whereas this defers the sum Utd have to pay until next year. However this assists Monaco as next season they will have a sale of a player for 45m meaning they can then sign some players. Quite clever by all parties really and something I expect will become a lot more commonplace

I'm not discounting his career at SL, and I'm sure he is a decent CB. There is a lot of difference between 'decent' and 'world class' though. The Scholes example you give actually helps prove my point as it is the exact opposite of Rojo in that he never looked comfortable on the wing and was clearly being played out of position in a waste of his true talent. The same can be said for playing Rojo at CB IMHO.
Nick Powell out on loan to Leicester - wonder if he'll be back?
Flying slightly under the radar, just been reading about what a mess there is at Spuds:
"Here’s why Spurs are panic selling.
Three goalkeepers (Lloris, Vorm and Friedel).
11 defenders (Walker, Naughton, Kaboul, Dier, Vertonghen, Fryers, Fazio, Chiriches, Rose, Davies and Assou-Ekotto).
11 midfielders (Lennon, Townsend, Lamela, Eriksen, Capoue, Sandro, Paulinho, Holtby, Chadli, Dembele and Mason).
...And two strikers (Adebayor and Soldado).
That’s 27 senior players. Kane and Bentaleb don’t take a place in the PL squad as they are U21 players. That leaves Spurs over the PL’s 25-man limit and especially high on the 17 foreign players.
If they want to bring in players like Welbeck and Stambouli they will have to sell or loan the likes of Sandro and Lennon to QPR and Fryers to Crystal Palace and maybe more"
Seems like they are trying to offload Fryers for £5M+ . Here's hoping he's still there tomorrow

I haven't seen anyone claim he is world class, you stated he was an LB who can play at CB based on the WC, you are wrong and I was informing you thuslyThe Scholes example you give actually helps prove my point as it is the exact opposite of Rojo in that he never looked comfortable on the wing and was clearly being played out of position in a waste of his true talent. So because Rojo is decent at LB means he cannot be a CB? How many Sporting games did you watch with him at CB out of interest?
To understand the signing you need to know LvG's philosophy, he likes CB's who can actually play with the ball rather than hoof it merchants, he also likes symmetry in the team, so one CB who is right footed and one who is left. The same in midfield also.

The other (perhaps overlooked) point about Falcao is that now that we have him, Arsenal, Liverpool, City & Chelsea don't
a much missed benefit We shouldn't forget we have also signed Blind who after watching our defenders hoof it route one as they couldn't find an outlet on the weekend, may just be the most pivotal signing we make

Blind looks a cracking signing. A star in the Ajax team and was excellent at the world cup and at 24 seems he can have a top career at Old Trafford. Plus we have Carrick coming back, with Herrea and Fletcher in the midfield. Just need a CB to complete the picture.

I've never said he can't play at CB, just that it's clear from watching him that it would be wasting a lot of talent to do so.You seem to suggest that being named the best player in a position at the WC equates to 'decent'. I'd suggest that it is the very definition of 'World Class'. He's proven that under the utmost pressure, and against the worlds best players, that he can consistently deliver top level performances. I wonder if the same would have been true had he played at CB?
