You two will never agree so I suggest you pass the question to a higher authority - what does Football Manager say? wink

It says 'The board are disappointed that you continue to use a player out of position and have taken the decision to relieve you of your duties'

I have. Strong, quick, good in the air and reads the game well. For me the only questions are over the quality of players he faced in the Portuguese league at CB compared to the Premiership, and can he marshal and organize the back line at MU. You desperately need a leader back there in the Staam, Vidic mould IMHO.
I cannot diagree with anything you have said there

Regarding a leader, we dont yet know who will emerge, I do think that is another weakness in the 3 at the back formation though, much easier with 2 CB's for one to be the shouty leader

Who'd have thought it. A Liverpool fan having a considered discussion in the MU thread that ends in agreement. smile

I'm also not convinced by the 3 at the back idea, especially when the players are all so relatively inexperienced. I'm still waiting for you to put a bid in for Vlaar TBH as LVG knows him well and he would appear to be exactly what you need?

As I have said on your thread LvG prefers 4-3-3 (or a variation thereof) I think he was just wanting to recruit the personnel to be able to play it

Vlaar is one I have been expecting for a while, although SSN have just mentioned Hummels again (not that I believe that one as it would be TOO good)

I just replied over there...but why would he make them learn a new system (while still playing players out of position) if he was going to buy the players to go back to 4-3-3?

I keep seeing rumours about Shawcross?? Not exactly the class CB we are after. Been very good at Stoke and potentially on the fringes of the England squad but Man U class? I dont think so.

Seems to make perfect sense with Vlaar, although perhaps LVG's knowledge of him is actually putting him off...

Can you imagine what would happen to this thread if Hummels and Vidal were to sign today? smile

If Smalling,Jones and Evans are Man U class then no,Shawcross isn't,he's far better.

I wouldn't want any of those 3 playing for my club.

I'll answer it here to save spamming the Liverpool thread with Utd chat

I suspect he was planning for the worst case scenario, in reality none of us knew that Woody would be so effective after last seasons problems and for a while (after Shaw and Hererra) it was looking a bit like a repeat of that window.

We have bought well imo and I imagine we have bought for a plan, he may persist with the 3-5-2 but I would be surprised

As for making the academy kids play the 3-5-2 he is known for promoting youth, its a good way to see if any of them were good enough to make the step up

I can't see Vlaar, Huummels, Vidal (or Shawcross) happening today. AFAIK all four of their clubs have said they're not leaving though I suppose with Vlaar it might depend on how badly Lambert wants Clevs.

( wouldn't surprise me if it was Vidal the way these last few days have been)

I find it amazing you've managed to get rid of that donkey Hernandez to Real Madrid of all places ... I bet LvG can't believe his luck. Just Cleverley and a few others still to offload - don't see anyone in for Young yet hehe

Maybe old Chico is suffering with confidence problems but he'll get less games at RM surely than he got at OT?

I can only see him being a super sub which is what he would have been here, strange move for him

Although if he comes off the bench and scores against the dippers in the CL he'll cement his place as a Utd hero smile

Fair point, showed some great early promise but has never fulfilled it, shame as he was (is) a fan favourite
