With the amount of money LVG has been given to spend i doubt very much we will see any kind of youth player playing for united in the future.
Seems the trend these days with the bigger clubs is to just get these kids through puberty & sell them to the lesser clubs.
Hand on heart , how many youth players would the united team play if all their squad was 100% fit.
None! Academies we're ruined by the actions of the FA following the class of '92 and the 90 minute rule a wholly unnecessary response to a one off event. This nonsense rule has recently been removed but the impact will be felt for years.Seems the trend these days with the bigger clubs is to just get these kids through puberty & sell them to the lesser clubs.

They other problem of course is the lack of patience when it comes to pay packets and first team chances for the youngsters themselves.. We've had a few like that some talented, a Pogba let's say and some just not good enough but greedy, a Fryers! The smaller clubs make good cash from the rare gems and the bigger clubs scour the globe to save on that £30m transfer fee. Our academy only has to deliver a first team player once a decade and they've paid for themselves. And of course in England this is all to the detriment of the national team. But that's another thread!
A good window for Utd but hold your horses ... anyone would think you were top of the Prem!
You've got a load of new talent which'll have to gel to work and in time it may do. The future looks rosy at present, far more so than for a year or so. Let's hope for your sakes this new lot 'get' the philosophy ... Or what then? Looks good on paper but it has to work on the field. In theory it should all work but you never know!
I think fans of other clubs will give you your moment back in a positive light but for LvG there really isn't any margin for error now (even if a few of those signings weren't his idea and a couple suddenly became available) ...
And after all that you didn't get Vidal!
Bad planning and management (yes, by SAF) over the last 3-4 years has brought you to where you are now ... a club having to spend millions all of a sudden to try and reclaim past glories ... It better go well!

Can't disagree with any of this, but we haven't had a good window in so long it's all quite exciting. Add on to that it's Falcao!!! We have strengthened in some good areas but there is still work to be done of course but Top 4 looks a more realistic possibility than it did pre window.
I thought the Falcao signing was great yesterday, seeing the reaction from other fans on here and elsewhere makes it even better, they are livid, I think it's nerves. When was the last time anyone was nervous about facing Utd.

None but united have to compete. , they clearly aren't producing another class of 92 , not have they really developed any british world class talent since. so what do they do ? Hold on to this youth philosophy and decline or play catch upSeems the trend these days with the bigger clubs is to just get these kids through puberty & sell them to the lesser clubs.

With uber spenders city and Chelsea , especially when they have the means and clout to attract world class talent ?

I've been pondering the bad planning and the actions of this window indicate the statements over the last few years saying that the cash was there but the players weren't available is more believable. In my opinion Fergie was restrained in the transfer windows prior to his retirement to allow the club to back a new man and back them big. I think Moyes was unlucky the way last summer panned out. We allegedly went for Bale, Ronaldo, Fabregas if one of those comes off It might've helped him. But it didn't and we all know how it went. So mistakes made and lessons learned. But this summer we've made up for lost ground and can comfortably afford the money spent. But you're right it'd better work. 2 more seasons out of the champions league and the glazers could be worrying.
As for reclaiming past glories, no trophies for 15 months, assuming we aren't counting the Chevrolet Cup, is hardly a drought!

I love the fact that if it isn't a 22 yarder or overhead kick he invariably leaves a defender on his arse as they don't know what foot he'll use either! Bit of a Unit said:

Lol.
Missed that we'd managed to loan out Cleverly at the last minute, finally got the message I guess, at least he'll get a game or two now.
So, moving on now, anyone want to place bets on our next starting 11?
Or if our injury list will be longer or shorter after the international break?

It's going to be facinating to see how LVG's team shape and tactics change over the season.....I don't think anyone has got a clue (even him I think) how things will pan out. I just don't see how he can play all of the big names in the same team....Falcao, Di Maria, RVP, Rooney, Mata. I can't see a sensible formation where that lot get to play regularly. High quality problem....
