Not great - especially the 2nd half. Can't see the point of giving Falcao 15 minutes at the end & then playing ticki-tacka with the ball across the midfield behind him. Didn't see one serious attempt to slide the thing down the middle to him.

Rooney's goal was a belter though smile

Oh and the Dippers lost biggrin

Oh dear, I only popped in to see if any of you had mentioned us losing today and there it was in the first post I saw. Worse than that bitter Everton lot! laughthumbup

Rooney's goal was fantastic and Falcao was put on to try that volley at end wink.

The Dippers lost? Can't say I noticed .... much smile.

Whilst not hitting the levels of the previous 2 first half performances ,I thought it was quite impressive.Villa came with 10 behind the ball and united completely controlled the game ,never looked in danger and dismantled them quite easily.
We look very solid and have acquired a distinctive pattern of play that the players have adapted to ,and believe in .
Villa have played ok recently and can always be a threat on the counter ,they offered nothing such was uniteds dominance.

For the first time in ages I'm actually looking forward to the derby instead of dreading it.

After nearly 30 league games, LVG finally plays Herrera in midfield and Wazza up front. What took him so long?

That's almost a perfect set of results for us this weekend, 8 points back to 5th place and now a point ahead of stty.

If United can keep all eleven players on the pitch for 90 minutes, they're in with a big shout.
Expect a reaction from City though. They'll be smarting after tonight.

The way the season is going with certain players slowly announcing themselves at key points (Mata in the scouse game, Hererra against Villa) what odds on AdM doing something special in the derby biggrin

City will be miles better against Utd than they have been recently. MC has a team of half-arsed mercenaries who cannot motivate themselves half of the time, but they will be able to do so for the derby.

Great win for United, I put my whole betting account on them to win and they didn't let me down. thumbup

Mata and Herrera have developed a really good understanding of each other's game, if we can couple that with an overlapping right footed right back that can find a man in the box that's the right side sorted. Carrick has really steadied the ship, I take my hat off to him.

Shocked at how disjointed City appeared last night, Aguero was playing at DM at times with 5-6 City players in front of him.

It will certainly make for an interesting game on Sunday, the games can't come quick enough for me at the moment. Whilst our style of play isn't perhaps the most exciting we've seen over the years we are clearly coming to terms with the instructions being handed down by LVG.

Agreed.

What about playing Young at right back? He's pretty sound defensively, and he is our best crosser at the moment. One advantage of playing him on the right would be that he would be crossing towards Fellaini's natural position in the box and over Mata (who aint gonna win no headers, bless him).

Then again, he has been playing well out on the left. He is a huge plus for me this season. Until recently, I thought he was simply dreadful, but LvG seems to have managed to get the absolute best from him.

some of our goals recently have been beautiful to watch, the overall quality of the peformances recently has been excellent ,the best since 2009/10 easily. The last 3 season its been painful to watch united ,but now I am starting to look forward to games again.

Completely agree. It's very pleasing on the eye and effective too. we will still draw and lose games that we should win and even vice versa and I'm happy with that. That's the United I fell in love with in the 70s!
