I want to take my brother and nephew to see a Real Madrid game at the Bernabeau next season once the fixtures are announced. If I picked a game against lowly opposition it seems that it they don't sell out. Can I buy tickets as a Brit on line, should I take my chances with touts at the ground? Does anybody have any experience of this. I guess I could book a package but I'd ideally like a cheap flight out, watch the game, night in a three star and return the next day.

I've been to a few matches abroad. Viagogo are good, or the clubs actual website. A club like Real Madrid will have an option to display the ticket info in English.

It's pretty straight forward been a few times, once as a corporate guest to United v Real. Once via a package to see El Classico and once with a mate under our own steam.

You can by tickets direct from the Real Madrid website for about £15 well in advance. It's highly unlikely you would need to rely on a tout or package deal unless it's the Barca fixture. You can also pay on the gate on the day but if it's sold out your in the hands,of the touts.

Great day or days out.

I've been to the Bernabeu a few times, each time just on spec without booking anything in advance. There are some windows down the side of the stadium where you can buy tickets from on the day. It's not made very obvious but we have never not got in when we wanted to go.

Beware of the tout angle, we bought tickets from a tout one time and despite disappearing down a side street to what we thought was a discreet distance, within seconds we were surrounded and rounded up by plain-clothes policía. Seems it's a big thing out there, we explained our nationality and our ignorance of that and amazingly they did just let us go - but we lost the tickets.

As above, it's easy enough to buy tickets on-line or in Madrid ahead of the game - unless it's one of the big games, and it's a lot more difficult and a lot more expensive.

A big 'watch-out' is that Spanish fixtures are provisionally set for a weekend at the start of a season, and then the day and time of the match only confirmed sometimes as little as 2 or 3 weeks ahead of the game - all of course driven by television requirements. If you're jetting in and out around the game, that can make flight arrangements a bit difficult.

One way around this is to select a home game immediately after a Champions League fixture - they will typically play on the Saturday and sometimes on the Sunday - narrows the options down a bit...

It's a great day out, amazing stadium, the upper rows are not for the vertigo sufferers out there!

Indeed! You don't want to be carrying a drink in one hand and food in the other and not having a free hand to grab onto someone/something at that moment when you glance down and wobble slightly!

yes

As an aside, I'm taking my two sons (16 and 18) to see Bayern Munich next weekend - a good alternative, and worth thinking about.

We've done the Spanish clubs a few times (Barca, Madrid, Valencia) and travel, tickets, and hotel are typically much more expensive vs Germany.

We've a three bed room in a 4* hotel in Munich city centre (10 mins walk from square, 5 mins from Hauptbanhoff) for €110/night, flights from Stansted on EJ for less than £100 each, and tickets are very reasonably priced too - and the Allianz is a brilliant stadium.

We'll have a weekend on the beer, watch some footy, see some sights, and enjoy the culture, for not very much, all considered. Makes my missue's trips away with the girls look very expensive...!

That looks like a great deal. Personally I'd go for Atletico/Milan as it's 1-0 to Atletico so Milan need to score two to progress. Should make for a cracking game.
