Agreed. I was implying that there's no point changing now as no impact can be made on the football side. Of course you can make the opposite argument that a new broom can get in early on the rebuild. But I don't think Utd are inclined to sack managers mid season, but we'll see.

You could argue that a new manager could come in and get a feel for the team ready to hit the transfer window and the new season running?
The opposite argument is a new manager now has no chance of making any difference to the outcome of UTD's season. Moyes' speech & body language lately though gives the impression of a beaten man. He sticks to the script in the pressers but his appearance gives him away.
On the other hand, a new manager can't do any worse frown

When I listen to Moyes speak, he really doesn't convey much confidence so I can only assume it's the same with the players.

It's funny, when they played the Community Shield and won it 4-1(?) the team was playing with confidence and belief....Fergie's confidence and belief! They played with the air of champions. Now they just look lost.

There is no creativity, no spark, no "attack attack attack" towards the final 15-20 minutes of a game, no wave after wave of pressure and no belief. Forgot how "bad" this team apparently are, that's not the problem, the problem is confidence and motivation. Fergie was a master as motivating and getting the most out of his players whereas Moyes obviously doesn't have the same impact.

Whilst I don't like the sacking culture that goes on at clubs now, financially United cannot be out of the Champions league for more than a season. The Glazers can't afford it, the club can't afford it and the world-wide fan-base that brings in a lot of money can't be risked.

I also cannot believe that they will give Moyes a sizeable transfer budget over the summer if there is not the belief in him. That is of course unless the directors (Fergie, etc) pick the players that Moyes will work with, but then again I disagree with that set up as well.

Bottom line, as good as he was at Everton, I just don't think he's the right man for the job. His way of dealing with pressure is almost one of "well it doesn't really matter, we'll solider on". No David, it does matter! Motivate your team!!

We cannot wait until Summer transfers..

The decisions, deals and negotiations need to happen NOW...! Before almost all of the worlds top players saunter off to Brazil for the World Cup. Trying to access players for club talk in these weeks will be fruitless and negative whilst they are playing for their country.

With the end of the leagues and start of WC squads joining being a matter of weeks, DM will have NO time to get to club and player.
When they return, I expect a rest and recovery period from burn out will ensue.. DM will be racking up the air miles if he wants to speak with prospective players coming to OT.

So... That leaves the frantic few weeks after holidays and summer shutdowns, but before pre-season training. We all now how influential and successful DM was in last summers window.

What makes you think he will be any better this time around..? The poll should be :

Will DM make a complete cockup of the next transfer window, plunging the great club even deeper into the table..?

You're making the mistake of thinking these players will talk directly to Moyes - I thought the modern way was *have your people talk to my people*?

If Moyes can/has identified players he wants for next season then the seeds should be being sewn NOW with respect to contacting players' agents. Most players are looking for an improved deal and we know contracts are worth fk all (as he may find out to his cost hehe ) and so he has a wide field to choose from. WHat can he offer them though - an improved contract maybe, but not CL or maybe even EL football. Just the chance to come to OT with him as coach. Players DO talk to each other believe it or not and they know who the decent managers/coaches are and whether they want to play for them.

Utd might end up getting in three or four players on HUGE wages, to go with the HUGE wages they're paying £ooney and RvP and may still turn out ste next season, who knows.

Can the Utd board afford to take the chance though - giving Moyes £100m over the summer. Vidic off for free, Evra probably likewise, Rio gone etc - not a lot coming in is there?

I'm pretty neutral nowadays but remember the times when I went to Utd back in the 1980's etc. Big Ron was in charge in those days, he used to live up the road from our terraced house with outside loo. No I am not making this up smile

So I have sort of lived the whole years of nothing and then years of everything. Now is the time of 7 thin cows again.

But as I said I am pretty neutral. Glad Rochdale are doing well. If you think Utd are doing badly now I recall Rochdale from those days where we and Halifax Town would have been put in Division 5 except the Russians had invaded Division 5 and declared it no longer part of the League.

However, having said all that, I do think these comments from another boss make some interesting reading

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26636265

"We are a Champions League club and now we are among the best eight, the best clubs in the world," said Mourinho. "The players deserve to be there."

"To come from the Europa League to the quarter-finals of the Champions League is important for the club, important for the players."

Talk about getting your "players" onside.

He mucked around with them and sold them and sorted them out, but rather than discontent at Chelsea, and we know how much players there can do things their own way, they seem to be bent to his will and also up for it.

United players do not seem up for it.

United need players who are bent to the managers will and still remain up for it. As they were under Ferguson. Managing those two things requires a lot of skill. Both the Utd and Spurs managers seem to be a bit out of their depth at the moment doing that juggling act.

Big difference though is Maureen has won Prem titles and Champs League ... Tactical Tim and Dithering Dave ain't won nowt!

So it's easy to understand why perhaps the players don't believe 100%. Maybe they should have some alternative plan between them - tactics, formation etc and forget everything he said as they walked out and set up how THEY feel it should be ... and just play like that. He's probably sub the lot!

They couldn't do any worse.

You're probably right. A mid-season change would be admitting that they got it wrong in appointing DM. Equally, they may already be looking for his replacement and fire him at the end of the season.
In five hours time the season will probably be over anyway....

I remember listening to a Radio phone in shortly after SAF announced he was to retire (the second time). The gist of the pundit, whoever it was, was that the likely next long term manager at UTD would not be the person following SAF, but the person following the person following.

The argument was that whoever came in first would have little chance of matching up to SAF, and was inheriting an aging team that would require significant work to overhaul. It was suggested that the role of the first in was actually to screw things up somewhat, thereby laying the ground for the ultimate SAF successor to come in as a bit of a hero.

Of course its completely tin foil hattery, but god I'm clinging to it right now...

IMO there are only 2 managers capable of both commanding the respect of the players at United and filling Red Noses boots, these being either Hose A or Guardiola.

I can`t see anyone else that has the clout/gravitas/nous/ x factor, call it what you will, to continue with Fergies level of success.

Moyes is simply Ferguson Lite.
