If you were MS and had to watch the club sell half the first team to bigger clubs and on much bigger wages but be told, "no lad, you're staying", you'd probably be a bit perturbed too.

Saints won't be relegated, they still have plenty of decent players at the club, plus youth. They'll just be making up the numbers though.

The slight difference with Schniderlin as apposed to someone like modric or Loveren is that he has done his time at the saints he's been there 6 years and has helped them get from League One to the top half of the premiership.

That said I feel really sorry for Southampton fans so I wouldn't be overly disappointed with not being a part of the asset stripping.

It's nothing to do with having an inflated expectation of what players ought to be. It's that if a player is going to be that unprofessional and public about his problems with the club, he could cause a negative atmosphere in the changing room at Spurs.

If one of your top players is banging on about how st the club is to anyone who will listen it's going to affect the other players. Yeah it's all fine when it's someone else's club but I don't remember anyone saying "ah well, players come and players go" when Modric missed training and no liked the chicken badge publicly. It's not the departure that's the concern.
Absolutely.

Unfortunately, a couple of people on here have totally missed the point that I've made. It's not about denying a player the right to move to better himself, it's about how they go about it.

Look at Bale last summer, he had to wait and wait and wait for his move to Real Madrid, however I don't recall him moaning on Twitter. Febregas when he left Arsenal he didn't make a song and dance about it either.

Players need to be professional. Badmouthing the club that's supported you and your family for 6 years isn't the way to do it.

It's a two way street. Schniederlin chose to sign a contract with Southampton, he wasn't made to sign it at gunpoint!

The difference with Bale & Fabregas, was that neither club turned round and said that the player wouldn't be sold, after indicating to the player that he could leave, as appears to be the case with MS. Besides, he hasn't actually done anything yet other than post a tweet.

Which Southampton are entitled to do as the player signed a contract with the club.

Yes I accept that I was just pointing out it was slightly different, like the difference between Anelka leaving you lot and Terry Henry leaving.

And all the player has done is tweet "6 years of an amazing journey #saintsfc DESTROYED in 1 hour !!!!"

I can only think that there is quite a bit that has gone on over the last week.

The Chairman of Saints has openly said he met Spurs with a view to selling him and Rodriguez last week...I'm guessing there have been conversations with the players with that meeting in mind.

Now the Saints board have had a load of stick of the mass clear out they've had and have said "no more player sales" which I can only guess has annoyed MS.

All of the above is pure speculation but it seems quite odd that a player would be that open about something.

Isn't it the case that if Spurs don't meet the fee & Soton turn us down, MS sticks in a transfer request that protects Soton from paying any more on his contract so the transfer fee goes up - Schneiderlin wins.

Yes and it was unprofessional and not the best way to get his move to Spuds.

It's hard to be sympathetic to players considering what they earn, but when you've watched half your team-mates walk out the door and know that if you stay you'll be circling the plughole, self preservation and career path have to play a role; get a move as one of the guys that got Southampton to 8th shooting above their weight, or stay another year and be one of those that got relegated with Southampton, has got to have a huge impact on earning potential and whether you make the jump to a club fighting for CL and all that entails or ending up at Bolton.

Does he? Us Spuds are a healthy bunch, unlike take away demolishing fans of other teams I could mention.
