I can't shake the feeling the with the right training and guidance he could be very good. Bale was a fking disaster when he got chances in the first team to begin with.
This is often said but completely untrue when he first joined us he was excellent, scored a couple of goals as well (inc one against the arse) anyone could see that he was a star in the making. What went wrong with bale after that was him getting injured, and then 'arry ignoring him for a year after that, it then took the genius harry a further year after that to realise that he was a left winger not a left back.
Once he was injury free and put in his proper position he tore up the league.

The stats don't lie though. He played 24 games for Spurs and we didn't win any of them. 20 of those 24 he started the game. It wasn't until we brought him on at 4 or 5 nil up in the last 10 minutes against someone st (I can't remember who) that he started to snowball.
As for the 'right' position lark, that's a tough one. He'd played LB for a long time and I don't think playing him LM or AML during his colossal losing streak would have sped up his transformation; it was a confidence issue as much as anything. Players often start in different positions (Dembele and Walker were strikers to begin with IIRC) but they shouldn't be as disastrous as the mighty Bale's entrance to the PL.
I feel like Townsend lacks guidance and is trying to fill a role we don't need him to fill. We've seen performances from him where he's been superb. He's young and I think his talent needs to be cultivated as opposed to offloaded. I don't imagine his wages are extortionate and he can grow in the cups.

Chaps going to London town for the wknd with the mrs
Hotel recommendation please (sat-sun)
Looked at
Double tree by Hilton (Westminster & Tower of London)
The Grand at Trafalgar
Just looking to do tourist thing - any thoughts or better hotels - about £240 for 2 nights i'm looking at
I'd suggest NOT staying in a hotel in any of the tourist destinations - you'll want somewhere quiet to come back to. See if you can get somewhere in the City or Canary Wharf - it'll be quiet at weekends and everywhere is easily accessable on public transport.Hotel recommendation please (sat-sun)

Dont mind a bit of noise, will no doubt have had a few drinks myself so will pass out ...http://www.hotelopia.com/h/hotel-st-james-court-a-... - looks nice?
There's no way he should be shipped out...he offers something different in that he can go past people and has loads of pace.
If after a year with the new manager he shows no signs of improvement then listen to offers, there are far quite a few ahead of him in the queue that should be out the door first.

Personally i'd stay somewhere like Wimbledon or even one of the countless hotels close to Heathrow & get the train in with a travel card & it's only a twenty minute train ride in to all the sights
What do you have planned, i'd avoid Tottenham for sure.

It's isn't completely untrue at all. Yes he did score a couple early on, in the league cup against pretty terrible opponents.
Yes it is'He made his competitive debut for Tottenham Hotspur on 26 August away against Manchester United. In just his second Spurs appearance, he scored his first goal for Tottenham in the 3–3 draw with Fulham on 1 September when he latched on to Robbie Keane's flick, charged down the left flank unopposed and coolly slotted past goalkeeper Antti Niemi.[38] Bale went on to score again against Arsenal in the North London derby, scoring a free kick inside the near post.[39] He then scored in the League Cup home tie against Middlesbrough,[40] making it three goals in four starts for the then 18-year-old.'
only one of those was a cup game the other were PL games against utd, Arsenal and Fulham.

If you're a super car freak, take the Mrs to Harrods & check out all the super cars parked up there & it's only a gentle stroll from the museums,
They say the Shard is terrific but double dear but that is close to borough market that is well worth the visit.
