We've bought a new GK, LB, CB, CB/RB, RB & a(nother) DM. Covered all the important positions as we were a shambles defensively last season (and last week lol!). Think we may regret not getting another forward though but glad we didn't panic buy and end up with some charlatan on a 6 year contract.

We've not improved our starting 11 at all.

Every single one of our competitors has strengthened their first 11's and have spent in excess of £50m, we yet again haven't spent a penny.

We now have a net spend of -£35m over the last 5 seasons, where is all the money going? If its toward the new stadium then fine but why not just say that (and start to build it)

We've offload a lot of midfielders that weren't going to play:

Jake Livermore
Gylfi Sigurdsson
Sandro
Holtby

Stambouli is a bit of an unknown but we are hardly weak in midfield.

In the defence we have improved the left back by buying Ben Davies to replace Danny Rose. Eric Dier is looking like a good purchase, can cover in the middle and looks like will push Walker hard for the RB slot.

Dawson has been roundly criticized and has now been replaced.

At the back a 43 year old backup keeper has been replaced with a younger model. Considering Hugo Lloris is generally thought to be one of the best keepers about we weren't going to replace him but we improved his cover.

Do you think we should have kept any of the following: Iago Falque, Heurelho Gomes, and Ezekiel Fryers

Didn't get a striker, but if the best Arsenil could only get Wellbeck, who do you think we should have gone for?

Nonsense. Dawson has gone. We've bought Fazio who has to be an upgrade and better than Kaboul. Davies is better than Rose. Dier is better that Naughton. Vorm is better than Friedel/Gomes. Stambouli has to be better than Sandro if he stays fit for half the season.

We're never going to be competing with the top 4 for transfers and the Scouse have the Suarez money this season. No properly run private business is going to publicise what they spend their money on. It's not as if Levy & Lewis are taking £20m each out of the company in shares each season. They know that the real payday is when they sell the club and in order to do that need to build a stadium first.

We're the 6th richest club in the country but miles off the top 4 by revenue. Who do you think our competitors are? Everton, Newcastle & West Ham by revenue are the only clubs close to us. Everton have paid £28m for Lukaku - who they had last season anyway, so hardly strengthened and Eto'o. I'm not quaking about Newcastle or West Ham!

We have to accept that we are in a 6th place "bubble" at the moment and to move on from there will either take a good amount of fortune or a huge, unsustainable amount of cash (which FFP doesn't even permit anymore).

I accept our place in football completely you say we are the 6th biggest team and you're probably right, but we haven't spent like one that's my point we've been out spent by everyone in the league bar Southampton this summer and over the last five seasons I doubt anyone else has a NET spend even approaching ours.

I ask again where is the money going? What about all this extra TV money where has that gone?

Fazio v Kaboul? No idea because none of us have ever heard of him but using transfer value as a barometer I'd say much of a muchness.
Davies v Rose? I had hoped Davies was better but the fact that Rose is selected ahead of him suggests we may just have managed to find the one left-back on the planet that is worse than him.
Reserve keeper: Bothered.
Dier better than Naughton? Early signs suggest so but price of this also-unheard of player suggest not.

In conclusion we have a side of identical calibre to last year at best in my opinion and our only hope is that Pochettino manages to get them playing as a team better than last year and importantly instil a bit of fire. That was missing from the big games last year and that seemed to be missing on Sunday.

Agree with the rest of it though.

If price = quality did you want us to bid for Torres or Andy Carroll?

Our record of spending big bucks on players is pretty poor.

1 Erik Lamela £30M 2013
2 Roberto Soldado £26M 2013
3 Paulinho £17M 2013
4 Luka Modric £16.5M 2008
5 Darren Bent £16.5M 2007
6 Mousa Dembele £15M 2012
7 Jermain Defoe £15M 2009
8 David Bentley £15M 2008
9 Roman Pavlyuchenko £14M 2008
10 Robbie Keane £12M 2009

Let's not forget that Loris was kept out of the first XI by Friedel when he first arrived...

Yep - I sure hope so. I'm hoping that we are saving like crazy to reduce the final amount of debt.

TV money
Prize money
Sponsorship money
Match day revenue
Player sales

Should all add up to a pretty penny, especially when we have an average net spend of something like -£6m over the last 5 seasons.

Is that abbreviated for stters or is that really our top 10 spends?
That is utterly horrifying.

I'm not overly bothered whom Liverpool decide to start with, our movement on & off the ball against QPR was like the good old days at Spurs & i think we will present the fragile Liverpool defence with far too many problems .
