I still don't know why Levy gets such a pasting from fans
Because thisEffectively he demands top 4 finishes from managers by giving them the 6/7th biggest wage bill and lowest transfer budget it in the league, at the same time as this he sells our best players and writes off the first 3 or 4 games of every season by leaving the signing of players until the last week of the transfer window.
Other than that he's Mustard!

Fair enough. To put it a different way:
Despite having the lowest transfer spend in the premier league his decision making has ensured that we still finish in the top 6 whilst making enough money to build our new stadium at which point he could well turn us into a title contender.
This is the camp I fall into. I think he is brilliant, although when the stadium is built, if it turns out we have to borrow most of it still, and all this non-spending has found its way to ENIC rather than Spurs I will definitely feel 100% differently.
Exactly the same for me.
Don't forget he's overseen the building of one of the best training facilities in the world as well.
And ascayman, does Levy actually demand top 4 from the manager or do the fans get in such a tizzy and the 24 hour talking heads enjoy stoking up a good anti-spurs story (seeing as most of them come from other top 6 clubs) that Levy feels like he needs to replace the manager?
As for transfers left to the last minute, almost every club buys players in the last week of the window...it's hardly unique to Spurs!

Only it's not the lowest transfer budget in the league, is it? Not by a long chalk. Effectively he demands top 4 finishes from managers by giving them the 6/7th biggest wage bill and lowest transfer budget it in the league
And it's not unreasonable to ask for a mild overachievement considering Spurs can't compete with the top 4 realistically anymore until their new stadium is finished (which looks effin' briliant, BTW!).
As a neutral, you could certainly have a lot worse.

For once this year (first I can remember) we pretty much got everything done pre season - why people leave it till last minute is beyond me...m3sye said:

This is the key to whether he has been a good chairman or not, there should be enough money there now to build this stadium... What I don't understand is if that's the case why not jut say it. Everybody would understand then. ascayman said:
Yeah it is, see the graph you've quoted. Weve spent less over 4 years than bloody burnley.
You seem to be confusing 'net spend' with 'transfer budget'. I really do I hope I don't need to explain the difference, nor why saying ''we've spent less than Burnley'' is just daft.
Just incase I do, Burnley spent £8.8m on transfers in the PL over the time quoted. In 12/13 alone, Spurs spent £51.2M.

Of course I know the difference, net spend is all that counts. You'll see from my original post I said 'lowest transfer budget it in the league' which is exactly the case because both sales and purchases have to be accounted for. So yes we have spent less than Burnley. I really do I hope I don't need to explain the difference, nor why saying ''we've spent less than Burnley'' is just daft.

Net spend is all that counts?! I think I may have nibbled a bit too early on this, guess I'd better provide myself with one of these

What's he going to come out and say? Surely everyone knows that with a stadium to build money is a bit tight. Sure, if in a few years time the club is up to its eye balls in debt and the stadium hasn't been built and we're in the bottom half of the table have a moan, but until then can't we give him the benefit of the doubt?
Where is the money then tell me that? its not on the balance sheet. He could quite easily say that the reason we haven't spent a penny in the last 5 years whilst our competitors have been spending 100's of millions is because we are tucking money away to pay for our stadium so we don't have to saddle ourselves with a load of debt. Any reasonable fan would understand that completely, but he hasn't, instead he's left us with a weak squad unfit for purpose with three games already gone and less than a week left before the window shuts..... again!
