If they manage to pull that off, whilst keeping a respectable place in the league they need a pat on the back for sure.

However would the fans prefer WHL and £200 million+ splurged on the squad and a few years of glory?

Also, the problem is that City and Chelsea have splurged £500m and then keep spending each summer, so £200m might allow you to get just about on par for a season or two. But then City also have the stadium already, they also have the academy, the sponsorship, etc.

But us second tier clubs, we really only have the option of maximising income through matchday revenue and sponsorship and even then we can only hope to do what Atletico have done - be awesome in the transfer market and have a brilliant season once every 5.

Probably won't make much difference anyway, not whilst the Petro-Dollar clubs exist. I see that they are even conspiring to reduce the CL places down to just 3....
That UEFA stuntastic CL (with multiple places for the top 4 leaques) is part of the reason why Petro-Dollar clubs exists.

In the good old days of football the CL, or Europa Cup 1 as it was onced named, consisted of only Europe's finest clubs, those that were able to win their domestic title. wink

Oh dear, it was originally a competition played by the league champions.
It changed in the nineties to include more runners up teams etc.

Unlucky with your pedant fail.

That was the European Champions Cup, replaced by the Champions League in 1992 at which point more teams from each country got involved, unlucky with your facts fail...

Champions is plural Sir, the Champions Leaque started in 1992 with just the leaque champions as the successor of the EC 1. If one club won the leaque, it became the European club Champion (singular). wink

But hey, with Platini and Blatter out of the way who knows good old football might turn back to some normality again in the comming decade (whisful thinking).

Strange language but still; my apologies, part wrong quote, part wrong person. (Subject matter unchanged though).
